Need Finding For Fitness Tracker
Group 13
Interviews
Interviews were conducted with 3 people in order to understand the need for our fitness tracker application.
This stage of the software development lifecycle is one of the most important as they allow a development team to ensure that they are providing a feasible solution for a problem, which can be identified through need finding. This process also provides a much clearer roadmap for the development of the product.
Our Interviews were conducted with another group of students during a practical session.
Interview 1
Ryan (University Student)
"I like to exercise regularly because it makes me feel good about myself"
"I play sports occasionally, but mostly my exercise is through the gym"
"I like the idea of trying to start eating healthier, an app to help me track this would be great"
Interview 2
Daniel ( Final Year University Student )

Interview 3
Sarah (University Student)

"I enjoying cooking, this makes eating healthy a lot easier for me"
"I feel an app to track your eating is something that everyone should have on their phone"
Survey Conducted
An online survey was also conducted to gain the view of the larger target audience. Not only does conducting a survey allow us to identify some requirements for the new system, but it also allows us to explore the problems that current processes and applications have, so that we can have ensure that problems are being solved and that the product to be developed is benefiting a large target audience, meeting the needs of many.

Point Of Views
Point Of View Development
Point of View Development took place with potential users of the system. In this presentation, the top 3 most compelling point of views were chosen to be portrayed.
Point Of View 1 : Daniel – Busy Student
We met up with a very busy student who is in
their final year at university.
We learned that he loves setting goals for
his health, but has been unable to set and
keep track of his fitness levels due to
prioritizing his time to university studies.
He thought that it would be amazing to
have an application to quickly allow him to
keep track of his goals and his nutrition levels
for his diet.
Found it would be very useful in saving time
from manual calculations of food nutritional values.
Point Of View 2 : Jessica -Student
We met up with another student who is currently studying in University at
First Year level.
We were surprised that although she is a very
active with sports societies in the
university, she struggles to set herself specific goals with her fitness.
Change to University lifestyle has made her more health conscious as she is fully in control
of her diet, so is responsible for ensuring
she has a balanced / nutritious diet.
Found that having the ability to easily track her
fitness levels would make her more
motivated to setting and sticking to these goals, allowing her to better
herself
Point Of View 3 : Dylan –A PersonalTrainer
We met up with an expert in the field of Health &
Fitness who is a personal trainer at a local leisure
center
He is well aware of the difficultness it is for
himself and his clients to ensure there is a good
balance in nutrition in their meals
" I request to some of my clients to consume higher levels of proteins, a lot of
them find it difficult to actually determine
this and can be surprised at the high levels of
protein found in some foods like sweet potato"
Feels it would be very useful for individuals to
keep track of their individual fitness goals and
diet, this would bring bigger results along with
his training plans.

Top 3 Solution Approaches
Solution #1
How might we create a quick and easy way of keeping track of fitness levels in which isn't time consuming?
Solution :
Having an easy and simple interface for users to enter their fitness statistics
Having the users fitness levels data easily visualized through e.g. graphs rather than raw data
Provide a tutorial for first time users in order for them to understand and familiarise the system
Solution #2
How might we help people create and keep track of fitness goals to help keep motivation high?
Solution
Provide consistent reminders to the user about their goal and their progress towards that goal.
When a user reaches their goal, provide suggestions on setting a new goal based on how much they over / under achieved.
Also provide useful fitness ideas to help them on their progress. For example, can have tips sections for healthy eating , effective exercising for building muscle etc.
Solution #3
How might we help people track the nutritional values in their diet to aid in healthy eating?
Solution:
We could have an interface in which people can enter the meal that they are eating. Using our dataset , we can produce results to show the nutritional value of this meal.
The meals they enter could be stored which allows users to track the meals they've been having along with the nutritional values.
We could provide advice to users about how healthy they are eating based on the meals they are entering.
