At the end of 2012, several high-profile cases of violence against women—and a wave of protest.

In New Delhi, India, rape of a 23-year-old woman, and government inaction.

In Nepal, rape and wage theft of a domestic worker returning from her job in Saudi Arabia.

In the US, the Violence Against Women Act was not renewed.
