Prof. Mary SajiniDevadas, AssistantProfessor ofChemistry, awardedFisher Endowed Chair atthe Towson University.Prof. Devadas joined thefaculty of Chemistry atTowson in August 2015.Dr. Devadas earned herPh.D. in chemistry fromWestern MichiganUniversity in 2012. Sheholds bachelors andmaster's degrees fromthe PSGR KrishnammalCollege for Women and another master's degreefrom Bharathiar University, all in chemistry.Before joining Towson University, Dr. Devadas wasa postdoctoral associate at the University ofNotre Dame from 2012 to 2015.Dr. Devadas teaches general chemistry, inorganicchemistry, and a graduate physics course innanotechnology. She has supervised nineteenTowson students in special problems, introductionto research, applied physics research, Honorsindependent study, Honors thesis, and physicsthesis, and has also supervised 5 local high schoolstudents. Dr. Devadas has published threepapers since joining Towson, one of which is co-authored by a TU graduate student. She hasbeen active in seeking extramural funding, and is amember of the team that recently secured a$530,000 grant from the National ScienceFoundation to acquire a scanning electronmicroscope.Dr. Devadas synthesizes and studies single metalnanoparticles. For her Fisher Chair project, shewill create nanoparticle-based functionalized metal-graphene oxide thin films with the aim ofdetecting very small amounts of chemical warfareagents. She foresees engaging 24undergraduates, three master's students and sixhigh school students in the program, and
