Mechanical (Backing) Pumps

• 4 Welch 55 cfm pumps

• All pumps run >48 hours

• Blankoff pressure <2.5 mT

• New shaft seals and belts (about $2000- to refurbish all pumps in-house)

Backing Pumps (cont.)

• Pump rebuild cost offsite is approx. $1700- per pump

• Equivalent new pumps approx. $9000- each

• 2 additional pumps (1 complete as possible replacement and 1 for parts)

• Pumps look ok for NCSX use with new shaft seals and belts

Roughing Pump

• Kinney KT500 (500 cfm)

• Pump not yet drained or tested

• Water cooling system decommissioned

• Attempt to start in 1995 was unsuccessful for unknown reasons

• Replacement cost is approx. $30,000-

TMPS

• 4 - 1500 l/sec L-H TMPs

• 1 pump in use on MRX

• 1 pump spun at low speed to test a power supply

• Rotors spin freely on remaining 2 pumps

• Fixture being fabricated to fully test pumps (tests completed in approx. 3 weeks)

TMP Power Supplies• 6 power supplies• 4 are operable and 2 are not• 1 power supply used on MRX• Shortage of cables• Offsite companies repair power supplies (if

needed)• TMP evaluation looks ok up to this point for use

on NCSX

• Henry Kugel and Bill Blanchard reviewed initial space requirements on the main port covers with Tom Brown

• One fueling injector per period (total of three)

• One standard ion gauge per period

• One GDC probe and starter filament per period (total of 3 each)

• One inboard injector (used for gas or pellets) per period

• One outboard supersonic gas injector per period
