A MONTHLY PUBLICATION DEDICATED TO OUR MEMBERS & THEIR DOGS

NCNC held our 2nd draft test and our final working event of the year on Sunday,November 18th. I am so happy to report the test was extremely successful with6 of the 7 entrants passing with flying colors! We had so many wonderfulvolunteers that the test ran quickly, smoothly and ever so efficiently under thesupervision of our Chairman, John Pearson, Secretary, Lori Littleford and ChiefSteward, Rick Humphreys. Thanks to each of our volunteers who shared theday with the entrants and for helping make this test one to go down in the recordbooks. Thank you to our judges Laura Gallagher and Karrie Cook for judgingthe event, providing clear instructions and being a calming presence during thetest.

I would like to wrap up my final article of the year by expressing my gratitudeto all of you. 2012’ was an outstanding year for the club. We provided to ourmembers and Newfy enthusiasts 2 draft tests, 3 water tests, club picnic, regionalspecialty, 3 draft seminars, a water seminar, an awards banquet, beautifullyedited newsletter, well managed website and lastly we all get to come togetherone final time this year at our annual Holiday Party.

I know there were several other events attended by our members to include theDavis Picnic, Concord Kidsfest, winning the best decorated bench at the GoldenGate Kennel Club show and several parades throughout the year. Thank youfor being so willing to volunteer for without your generosity of sharingyour time and talent we could not had all of the events mentionedabove. Enjoy the season with your friends andfamily.

WORKING DOG MEETINGPlease join NCNC in making plans for the 2013 working dog year on January 6th 2013 at the Maggy’shome in Hayward. EVERYONE is welcome, come for brunch at 10-11 and stay for the meeting tofollow. Help make decisions on judges, locations and dates. Be an active member of your club’sworking events by volunteering to Chair, Secretary or Chief Steward an event, there are plenty of jobsto go around. Speak up to get the job you want!

Are you new to working dog? Don’t be afraid to volunteer, hands on is the best way to learn and thereare many helpful members who are always ready to help. We always look forward to seeing newfaces at the Working dog meeting!

Chewbacca passed away Monday Nov 5th. He was 13 yrs 10 mos old.He died peacefully in his sleep between 3 pm and 6 pm. I fed both heand Wookie some cookies about 3 pm and Chewie was fine. I prepareddinner for he and Wookie about 6 pm. Wookie ate his. I looked out thewindow and it appeared Chewie was sleeping on the lawn. I calledfrom the house with no response. I went out to get him and he wasdead.

Needless to say Deb, Wookie and I are grieving, but are extremelyhappy that Chewie passed on his own terms.

He is going to be cremated. We plan on putting his ashes on theshelf next to the Senior Award he received from the NewfoundlandClub of Northern California. We believe up to his death, he was the

oldest living Newfie in the Club.

Chewie lived a good life. He traveled through 29 states and Canada. He swam in the Pacific, San Francisco Bay,Lake Tahoe, Yellowstone Lake, Lake Huron and Joes Pond in Vermont. Of course there were other Ponds and Lakes as well.

He loved his Mountain house. He and Wookie would go out on the deck for hours in snow storms. They were Newfies whenthey went out and Pyrenees when they came in.

He had his own medical insurance, along with his own Dermatologist, Cardiologist and Oral Surgeon and of course thanks go toeveryone at Redwood Vet.

He was always well cared for when he stayed at Atherton Acres in Novato thanks to Betty, Vera and their staff.

He always stayed in touch with Deborah Muzzin, his Grandmother at Abelard Kennels. Deborah told me he outlived his motherLola and all of his brothers and sisters that were born with him on Jan 5, 1999.
