The decision to attend a specific program of study in the visual arts is an important one. We strongly recommend a campus tour if you’re considering an application to the New Brunswick College of Craft and Design. We believe we have one of the most creative learning environments in the country!

If you’re thinking of applying to the Foundation Visual Arts program, no portfolio is required for admission (just a high school diploma, or equivalent). However, applicants to more advanced Diplomas or the Graduate Certificate program are required to submit a portfolio of original artwork. This should include ten (10) examples of recent original artwork, presented in an 8.5 x 11 inch format. Three dimensional work should be photographed and presented as two dimensional prints (do not include actual examples). Include a brief description of each piece of artwork, media used, and date of completion.

Applicants will be notified when portfolio assessments are complete. Portfolios can be picked up at the New Brunswick College of Craft and Design, 457 Queen St, Fredericton, or returned via Canada Post (be sure to include name and contact information, and a return mailing address).

For more information on application procedures to all programs contact Nancy Beaulieu, College Registrar. She can be reached at (506) 453-6491, or [email protected].

International

International students are attracted to the New Brunswick College of Craft and Design for many reasons. Our fine crafts and design programs are recognized – and fully accredited – in Canada and other nations. Class size is small and tuition is reasonable. What’s more, our students are taught by faculty with extensive professional experience and our graduates have a 96% job-placement rate. Finally, the learning environment here is very friendly and embraces students from many different cultures.

The New Brunswick College of Craft and Design was established in 1938. Today the campus is located in historic downtown Fredericton, the provincial capital and a designated Cultural Capital of Canada. Fredericton is home to two universities and two colleges, a vibrant arts scene, and a system of walking trails and parks along the St John River. A campus library and store, and nearby bookstores, boutiques, cafés and art galleries help create a safe, inspiring and supportive learning environment. New Brunswick College of Craft and Design is the only college in Canada that focuses entirely on fine crafts and design. We’ve done this since 1938.

In 2010 we became an arts college independent of New Brunswick’s community college system, with our own administration and educational pathways. And our own future.

At the same time, we’ve also been designated a centre of excellence in the arts, expanding into a newly-renovated Soldier’s Barracks next door. We’ve recently signed international agreements in Brazil and China so our students can learn there, and theirs can learn here in Fredericton.

An astounding 96% of our graduates rate our programs as good or excellent. And exactly the same percentage are employed within 2 years of graduating.

Given all this, it’s little wonder we have one of the best educational experiences in the visual arts. Anywhere. Students benefit from small classe sizes, professional studios and labs, an extensive library, and some of the best faculty in the world of crafts and design.

For more information on application procedures, summer or evening programming, or other full-time program options, contact Nancy Beaulieu, College Registrar. Textile Design is offered as an option within the 2-year Fashion Diploma program. Students develop a theoretical and practical knowledge of knitted and printed textiles. The curriculum is underpinned by the use of software as well as traditional textile design processes, providing a creative and practical education in textile design that fits the needs of industry, or freelance design.

Instructors with extensive professional experience, fully-equipped studios and labs, and a curriculum combining skill development with an entrepreneurial focus prepares graduates for successful and rewarding careers throughout the textiles and fashion industries, including carpet and fashion design, fashion décor, and freelance consulting.

The New Brunswick College of Craft and Design campus is located in downtown Fredericton, a designated Cultural Capital of Canada. A campus library and store, and nearby bookstores, boutiques, cafés and art galleries help create an inspiring and supportive learning environment.

For information on the Textile Design option within the Fashion program, contact Harriet Taylor, Coordinating Instructor, at (506) 444-3735, or [email protected].
