Low-loaders for the transport of high, heavy and bulky loads

EURO Nooteboom Euro low-loaders are used for transporting e.g. earthmoving machines, tracked plant, vessels, wheel loaders, boats, combine harvesters and machinery components. Maximum Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) is 134 tonnes at 80 km/hr for the largest low-loader combination.

The conventional low-loader is equipped as standard with hydraulic suspension (air suspension optional) and hydraulic command steering. The hydraulic steering ensures maximum manoeuvrability and keeps tyre wear to a minimum.

The low-loaders are available in many configurations. They can be supplied in versions with 2 to 5 axles, in widths of 2540 and 2740 mm and there is a wide choice of load floors. To increase the payload and improve the axle load distribution a Jeepdolly or Interdolly can be added to the front of the combination. The rear axle bogie can be equipped with a boom recess or a V-shape, which is useful for carrying loads such as excavators or vessels. The height of the axle assembly is from 860 mm (2 axles) to 1040 mm (5 axles), ensuring there is always enough ground clearance to cope with bumpy terrain.

SUPER-SHORT BOGIE 2-AXLE LOW-LOADERThe 2-axle low-loader is equipped as standard with a super-short axle assembly providing well over 50 cm extra net load floor length with the overall length staying the same. In spite of the compact build, the wide and deep trough along the entire length of the axle assembly is retained. To facilitate the loading of self-propelled machinery, the axle assembly is extremely low and has a beaver tail both front and rear. The aluminium ramps can be hooked onto an integrated u-shaped section at the front and u-shaped section at the rear.

The latest generation of low-loaders is the Nooteboom PXE Pendel-X Euro low-loaders. This low-loader is equipped with pendle axles and is the ultimate transport solution for the transport of construction and earthmoving machi-nery. For the transport of boats and vessels the Pendel-X low-loader offers important advantages too.

PENDEL-X

The axle assembly of a Pendel-X Euro low-loader is extremely compact; in comparison with a conventional low-loader it is as much as 260 mm shorter. Moreover, there are no longer any protruding parts at the front of the axle assembly. In practice this means there is well over 600 mm extra load floor length available for payload while the overall length stays the same.

The PXE low-loaders are constructed on 14 t/axle line at 80 km/h and have an ultra-wide and deep excavator trough in the axle assembly. The Pendel-X Euro low-loader adds an important extra dimension to low-loader transport, combining the advantages of the exca vator trough and user-friendly operation of a conventional low-loader with the load capacity, steering and compensation of a modular trailer. Compared with a conventional low-loader the PXE low-loader offers a significant higher payload capacity.

The Pendel-X low-loader can be sup-plied with 2, 3, 4 or 5 pendle axle lines and in widths of 2540, 2740, 2840 and 2990 mm. If extra payload capacity is needed a 1-axle and 2-axle Jeepdolly as well as a 2-axle and 3-axle Interdolly can be added to the PXE low-loaders.The height of the Pendel-X Euro low-loader axle assembly can be adjusted from 960 mm in the lowest position to 1360 mm in the highest position.

The ingenious steering system of the Nooteboom Pendel-X low-loader gives it excellent manoeuvrability. The steering system is also extremely maintenance-friendly as it has very few components. For instance, the steering cylinders are connected directly to the axle beams so that there is no longer any need for extra transmission components.

LOAD FLOORSFor the conventional and Pendel-X low-loaders Nooteboom has a wide range of load floors, which means there is a solution on hand for any kind of trans-port as regards floor type, length, width and other options. Versions that can be supplied are e.g. a fixed (non-extendible) floor, extendi-ble floor, vessel floor and spine floor. Load floor width extension, removable floor parts, wheel wells, hydraulic width adjustment and load surface extension parts are just a few examples of the many extra options available.

FINGER JOINTS LOAD FLOORLoad floors can be fitted with finger joints as an option. This not only offers the benefit of exchangeable load floors, but also makes it possible to quickly and easily increase the pre-cambering to achieve optimum ground clearance for the load that is to be transported. Finger joints are standard for all 5-axle low-loaders.

2-BEAM LOAD FLOORSA feature of the 2-beam floor is that the 2 main beams are located at the outside of the load floor, exactly there where the wheels or tracks of earthmoving machines are supported. The load floor has a standard height of 40 to 45 cm, depending on the version and strength. The floor is available as fixed, single or double extendible. The load floor’s width can be extended on both sides by up to 25/30 cm by means of integrated extension outriggers. Besides a fixed hardwood floor there is the option of removable floorboards that can also be used in a lower position between the load floor main beams.

LOW AND ULTRA-LOW LOAD FLOORSA variant of the 2-beam load floors is the low floor version. These are availa-ble in a low 33cm and an ultra-low 22 cm high version and can be supplied as a fixed floor or single extendible floor, complete with width extension. Even the ultra-low load floors are available with removable floor boards.

VESSEL FLOORThe vessel floors are available in many versions, e.g. with hydraulic width adjustment, single or double extendible. With separate extension main side beams, either extendible or non-extendi-ble, the overall load floor length can be increased further. The vessel floor is also the perfect solution for the transport of loads such as boats and crates.

STEP FLOORFor the transport of wheel loaders in particular, even more carrying height can be created by using a so-called step floor with optional wheel wells. The load floor height is approx. 300 mm as standard and can at the bottom of the wheel well measure up to approx. 160 mm lower. Cover plates for the wheel wells can be supplied. The step floor is extendible in length and width.

SPINE FLOORThe spine floor is available as a fixed or extendible floor in various widths. The width of the load floor is adjustable by means of extension or folding outrig-gers. Various floor filler parts, some of them reversible, can be supplied to turn the floor into a flat floor or a step floor. Another option is a spine floor with hydraulic width adjustment to infinitely adjust the width of the outside areas of the load surface with one push of the button.

SPECIAL FLOORSIn addition to the standard load floor programme, Nooteboom offers load-specific floors such as a cable drum floor. This floor with a load height of just 10 cm is extremely compact but provides optimal support for the drums.

CLOSE COUPLED LOAD FLOORFor all low-loader combinations with an Interdolly, a special close coupled load floor is available, which means the low-loader can be used as semi-low-loader. Due to the lower tare weight of the close coupling, the load capacity of the trailer is increased.

GOOSENECK To facilitate loading and unloading, nearly all low-loaders are equipped with a hydraulic detachable gooseneck as standard. As an option they can be supplied with a fixed gooseneck or hydraulically adjustable gooseneck. The type of gooseneck depends on the low-loader configuration, the type of tractors to be used and dollies (if applicable).

To increase the payload capacity and improve the axle-load distribution, the low-loader combination can be equipped with a Jeepdolly of Interdolly.

INTERDOLLYDistinctive features of the Nooteboom Interdolly are its extremely compact build, a low dead weight and above all the unique and reliable coupling concept, which makes it extremely straightforward to add or remove the Interdolly.This compact build also means that more floor capacity for payload becomes available while the overall length stays the same. It is also possible to have the load protrude over the Interdolly, which will be a major advantage when carrying machines such as stone crushers or drilling rigs. Nooteboom supplies 2 and 3-axle detachable Interdollies.

JEEPDOLLYThe Nooteboom Jeepdolly is an extremely compact mini semi-trailer positioned between the gooseneck and tractor. Nooteboom supplies 1-axle and 2-axle detachable Jeepdollies. The main purpose of the Jeepdolly is to simply increase the load capacity at the front of the low-loader in order to prevent overloading the tractor. A Jeepdolly provides excellent manoeuvrability, owing to the extra turning point between Jeepdolly and gooseneck. The Jeepdolly is usually detachable. Depending on the load capacity needed it can simply be left out of the vehicle combination. In many cases a Jeepdolly will be an excellent alternative to a heavier tractor.

INTERDOLLY CONFIGURATIONS

DETAILS & SUPERSIZE U-SHAPED EXCAVATOR TROUGH IN AXLE ASSEMBLY The Pendel-X Euro low-loader has an ultra-wide and deep U-shaped trough in the axle assembly for the transport of machines such as excava-tors. With a low ride height of just 1100 mm, the trough is an impressive 550 mm deep. Depending on the axle assembly, the trough is 500 mm wide in the smallest version and 950 mm in the widest version.

BRAKE CYLINDERS PROTECTED An important advantage of the Pendel-X Euro low-loader is that the brake cylinders are mounted in such a way that they will never be the lowest point and therefore not at risk to be damaged by driving. This guarantees a high degree of transport reliability.

HEAD BOARD AND SIDE BOARDSLoose materials can be stored out of sight behind the headboard with removable aluminium pullout boards or drop side boards. These boards are available in various dimensions.

SPARE WHEELA spare wheel should always be close at hand. The spare wheel can be stored flat on the gooseneck or up against the front of the head board.

PERFECT STEERING The ingenious steering system of the Pendel-X low-loader provides outstanding manoeu-vrability. The steering system is also extremely maintenance-friendly, as it has very few components. For instance, the steering cylinders are directly connected to the axle beams, eradicating the need for central steering components.

HYDRAULIC QUICK-CONNECT COUPLINGWith the latest Nooteboom Easy-Connect hydraulic 6-in-1 quick-connect coupling it is even easier and quicker to couple/uncouple the detachable gooseneck. In one single move all

6 hydraulic hoses are disconnected or connected with each other.

CENTRAL LUBRICATION SYSTEMWith the optional central lubrication system all grease points will be lubrica-ted automatically. There is a choice of a 0-grease and 2-grease system.

TOOLBOXTo safely store loose materials a steel, lockable box behind the head board on the gooseneck can be supplied. For smaller loose parts there is the option of a compact storage box underneath the gooseneck.

INTEGRATED LASHING PROVISIONS The axle assembly of the low-loader is amply equipped with certified ‘heavy duty’ drop rings. On the Pendel-X low-loader they are integrated in the axle assembly: inside the U-trough as well as on the outside of the axle assembly.

DETAILS & CONNECTIONS AIR/ELECTRICITY All connections for air and electricity between tractor and trailer are located on the detachable central unit at the front of the gooseneck.

WIDTH MARKER PLATESFor the sake of safety it is essential to carry width marker plates if the load protrudes at the side of the vehicle. The telescopic marker plates are maintenance-free and fitted with a retro-reflective warning sign and lighting. A flashing beacon can simply be attached to the flashing beacon post.

CENTRAL CONTROL UNITThe central control unit of the low-loader is located at working height below the gooseneck. With this control unit all hydraulic functions of the combination are controlled, such as the gooseneck, lifting/lowering of the rear axles and the Interdolly. In this central unit all hydraulic

components (tank, pump, valves, air-pressure gauges) are grouped together. The control unit can be pulled out, which is convenient for service activities.

REMOTE CONTROL STEERING & ASAWith the remote control steering the axles of the low-loader combination can be steered independent from the movement of the tractor. The remote control steering is to be used only at low speeds (up to 20 km/h) and will make it easier to manoeuvre during loading/unloading or when negotiating difficult terrain. For fast and accurate alignment of the tractor and trailer, the remote control steering is equipped with the patented ASA-system (Automatic Straight Alignment). After using the remote control stee-ring the axles of the low-loader are automatically put in the straight-ahead position again with the push of a button. The remote control steering and ASA can be supplied with wire connection or radio control based on GSM technology.

With the wireless handset the axles can easily be steered from the truck cab.

MAINTENANCE-FRIENDLYThe Pendel-X Euro low-loader is extreme-ly maintenance-friendly. All components, such as brake valves and brake lines, are mounted high and securely on a removable mounting plate. These plates are located on either side of the U-trough in the axle assembly and very easy to get to.

SUSPENSION SYSTEM & HEIGHT COMPENSATIONAll low-loaders are equipped with hydraulic suspension as standard. The axle assembly of the conventional low-loader can be supplied with air-suspension on request. The ground clearance of the load floor can be adjusted by means of the suspension system. The total height compensation depends on which suspension system has been chosen.
