NAZARENE WOMEN EXTRAVAGANZA: 08 – 11.08. 2013
ANNUAL REPORT
1. INTRODUCTION We thank God that for the first time the Extravaganza was extended from three to four days of conference. This
enabled us to participate in various activities which were not possible in the previous years. This conference was
unique in the new field of Africa with Zimbabwe, registering in the Extravaganza for the first time and had an
opportunity to render an item. This is encouraging to meet with our brethren from other fields of Africa.

3. INVITATION OF THE REGION We were blessed this year when the leaders of the Region graced the Extravaganza by their full attendance,
prayers and words of encouragement. Extravaganza members were blessed by the presence of the Regional
Director: Dr and Rev S. Chambo, SDMI Africa Coordinator: Rev D. Mathebula, Africa South Field Strategy
Coordinator: Rev C and Rev S. Elliot, Gauteng District Superintendent, Rev L and Ms Phillips, NTC Principal:
4
Rev and Ms H.M. Maluleka, Africa Nazarene Publication, as well as several District Superintendents and
Pastors.
4. REGISTRATION PROCESS
4.1 CONFERENCE REGISTRATION
Conference registration went well as the Council handed ID Cards to Districts coordinators to distribute to
members. We apologize for the incidences of inconvenience where IDs of members who registered in time
were not available. On the other hand we appeal to members to deposit their registration fees in time to
allow Council to improve service delivery
4.2 ACCOMMODATION AT GNCC, NTC AND ELSWHERE
We have witnessed the commitment of members to ensure the Extravaganza succeed by arranging
accommodation of their District members. Seeing that GNCC and NTC cannot accommodate everyone, nearby
hotels and lodges contacts were sent to Districts. Thank you very much for members who used them and even
explored further possibilities.
4.2 MEALS
Meals during the conference are still a challenge as fewer members opt not to have meals at GNCC. We
appeal to members to pay for GNCC meals instead of eating food cooked the past three days that led to
several casualties of diarrhea.
5. CONFERENCE HALL The Conference Hall was ‘filled to the brim’ with chairs (chairs were placed on stage as well). From Friday
morning to Sunday Morning sessions, the Hall was so full that some members had no place to sit. An estimation
of about 1200 people was present. Experience of members attending the conference without paying the
registration fee has led to the use of private security guards to ensure only members who paid registration
entered the hall. Indeed, this initiative bore much fruit in that an additional 200 people paid registration during the
conference.
6. VIDEO, DIGITAL PHOTOS AND SCREENS Mr Suzman Shikwambana captured the Extravaganza conference and produced DVDs that were sold to Districts
and members. This year the morning devotions, Afternoon lesson, talent session and Women Clergy meeting
were also captured. He also took pictures that he stored on a CD. He also connected his 4 plasma screens for
the members seated at the back. We thank him for job that was professionally and well done. Copies of DVDs
were distributed to the Regional Director, the Africa Southfield Strategy Coordinator, Africa Region SDMI
Coordinator as well as to the guest speaker. Though with some challenges, he managed to duplicate DVDs for
members to take home after the conference.
7. RUNNING OF THE CONFERENCE
5
All registered members received conference programs, copy of HOLINESS UNTO THE LORD song as well as
the slides of Choruses and Hymns that were in the program. We hope this endeavor assisted members because
we were not able to project them on screens.
The Church of the Nazarene Women Extravaganza was extended for a long weekend of 8th to 11th August 2013 at
Good News Convention Centre. What a blessing for women, men, pastors, district superintendents, Africa South Field
and Regional Staff to grace the occasion with full attendance and words of encouragement. A total of 1188 members
registered for 2013 Extravaganza. A nice and extra-ordinary surprise was the feature of five women from Zimbabwe
who heard of the Extravaganza, took a giant step to make history, in being the first members from our neighboring
Field to attend the Extravaganza, thereby ensuring the Extravaganza start knocking at the doors of the Fields of Africa
and beyond.

Lesotho Talent show
6
This was indeed a “different year” for the Extravaganza with various innovative activities that lifted all participating
members to higher Spiritual realm. A Talent session revealed that there is indeed great potential in the Church of the
Nazarene when members praised God with Poems, Speeches and songs from their recorded albums. Our Evangelist
Grace Masilela challenged members in an historic Holy Communion on Friday evening to re-live the “Last Supper” of
our Lord Jesus and his disciples. Rev Samantha Chambo, had
an opportunity to gather the women Pastors in a Women
Clergy meeting which will minister to the needs of the Women
Pastors, starting from 16th – 19thMarch 2014; first Africa
Region Women Clergy conference.
Rev Grace Masilela: Last Supper!
What a blessing to see members dancing to the Lord as they
flock to the front with their offerings to the Lord! Since it was a “competition”, the Extravaganza members were
surprised by the South Eastern District, one of the smallest Districts in Africa South Field, to obtain position one with
an amount of R7087.20. From the free-will offerings, the Extravaganza Council donated R21 721.00 to the Nazarene
Theological College. Rev C Elliot ‘rubber stamped’ by declaring that the Africa South Field will match the offering. The
Principal of NTC was moved by this offer and indicated that this money will be used to tile the College Library.
The guest speaker, Pastor Jackie Joseph from Kwazulu Natal District was used mightily of God in the conference
theme: Holy, Living Sacrifice. She reminded members that since God gave us the Word, we can face all challenges.
She challenged members to let God transform their lives to be holy in speech, in dress, in conduct, keeping their
bodies pure as the temple of the living God. If we do that, we shall provide answers to the world’s questions. The
world is troubled, like the sinful woman who anointed Jesus’ feet, it is only in the encounter with Jesus that peace can
be found – Jesus said to her: Go in peace. Without Jesus, we are “naked”, just like the man who entered the wedding
hall without the required attire. She reiterated that we have one Father, but it is ironical that His Word that has
power to transform lives seems to have no effect in our lives. Pastor Joseph challenged all members to live according
to God’s word. She was a blessing to all members!
Rev Samantha Chambo: Women Clergy
7
The Africa South Field Strategy Coordinator, Rev Colin Elliot, declared that women in Africa are leading the way in the
Church. He gave an example of Rev Veronica Myanda, the SANDF Chaplain who represents the Church of the
Nazarene well by ministering to the soldiers. The Africa Regional Director, DrFilimaoChambo, projected to the future
of the Extravaganza, where we look forward to the Men Extravaganza, Youth Extravaganza, as well as Extravaganza
for the Children. This became true when men gathered at Good News Convention Centre in what they call NAMECO
(Nazarene Men’s Conference) on the weekend of 30th August to 1st September 2013. Indeed God has started the
good work in Africa South Field. The Nazarene Women Extravaganza will continue to be an annual event to minister
to members and encourage them to be steadfast in faith, lifting up the name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
Amen!

8. PROGRAM PREPARATIONS
A. PROGRAM DIRECTORS AND INTERPRETERS
The role of program directors cannot be overemphasized, because they steer the programs and manage time in
order to conduct all planned activities. Indeed, the Women Ministry is alive in Districts. This is evident in the
professional way in which experienced program directors from various Districts conducted the programs. Let us
keep this good standard up. We congratulate all the interpreters for showing up as indicated in the program. As
the conference is conducted in English, it is not possible to satisfy all members through interpreters. We
therefore appeal to members to sit closer to members who do not understand the languages used at particular
sessions and help with explanation.
B. USHERS
The ushers from various districts have shown their dedication and commitment to the work of God by ushering
members places to sit, assisting those sick to reach to Council for help, ushered members during taking
offerings, etc. The challenging work of ushering did not go unnoticed. Well done young ladies!
C. WORSHIP TEAM
The worship team had a hectic long week-end of practice, rehearsals and blessing members with anointed
music. We congratulate women of your caliber, who showed unwavering faith and extra-ordinary energy
throughout the long week-end. It was through your efforts that program directors were able to manage time as
you started singing earlier than the starting time. Music is food to our hearts, so keep on blessing us in
subsequent years!
D. BAND
Experience has shown that at times what you planned may not work as expected. This year we had an
adventure of using the newly purchased GNCC instruments and requested players from districts. The
unforeseen happened. We acknowledge the fact that the instruments could not handle the task of the
Extravaganza. We therefore, apologies to the members for the inconvenience of interrupted sound during the
2013 conference. At the same breath, we need to indicate that if our Center, GNCC can manage to have all
equipment for the conference: screens, music instruments and projectors, it will be of value in future
conferences.
E. MEETING WITH DISTRICT COORDINATORS
The Council had an opportunity to meet with the Districts Coordinators on an information sharing meeting. The
meeting proved to be very fruitful in sorting out differences and ironing out misunderstandings. Some important
agreements were reached: to charge a fine for late Extravaganza registration, to order T-shirts and water bottles
for members to take home, review position of coordinators, elections into the council. Members expressed their
wish to have break-away sessions, which is still a challenge because during the Extravaganza, all break-away
rooms are ‘bedrooms’.
9
F. SUGGESTION BOXES
.We managed to keep suggestion boxes this year from day one to the last day. Members were given opportunity
to say what their wishes are. The team that deals with announcements and suggestion boxes have managed to
collate all suggestions and presented to the council for consideration. In general, suggestions focused on:
Worship Team, Ushering, Interpreters, Program Directors, Preachers, Musical items, Holy Communion,
Bereavement, Prayer room, Accommodation, Meals, Testimonies, Amalgamation of Districts, etc. These
suggestions are valuable for the Council to plan carefully for the future. We have tried to make changes and
adjustments where possible, and members will observe in 2013 Extravaganza that their suggestions were
considered. However, it must be emphasized that while all suggestions were discussed, not all were approved,
for example, suggestion to do away with Security. Again, some suggestions can be considered for a long-term
plan. We also appeal to members to suggest guest speakers for future conferences.
G. BEREAVEMENT IN THE EXTRAVAGANZA
Little did we know that when setting up a bereavement committee in the policy we shall be confronted head on
with shocking news of our Extravaganza members passing on. They are gone! It is painful for us. We battle to
come to terms with their departure! We miss them, but as one young man said in the funeral of his sister, we
also say to our departed members: “Good night, we shall meet in the morning.”
Members who departed after attending the 2012 Extravaganza are as follows:
DISTRICT NAME
1. DRAKENSBURG
Mrs Folomita Dilebo
2. SUNRISE District
Pastor John Mandla Ngombe (Nelspruit )
3. SUNRISE District
Mrs Fikile Alexinah Nkosi.
4. GAUTENG
Mrs Getrude Moagi (Pastor’s wife)
5. NORTH EAST
Mrs Hellen Mokgatha
To their loved ones, and Extravaganza members, let us be comforted and be encouraged that the tears that flow
today, God Himself will wipe away from our eyes. Let us continue to walk on this valley of the shadow of death,
while smelling the food as the Lord prepares a table for us on the other side (Psalm 23)
9. COUNCIL MEETINGS
Extravaganza Council meetings are organized for the preparations for the conference and also to review the
successes and challenges of the Extravaganza. It has been resolved to reduce the number of meetings to only
two per annum. Our major week-end meeting was held at Tzaneen River Lodge from 4th to 6th January 2013,
and the final one was conducted at the beginning of the conference at GNCC.
10
10. FINANCE: REGISTRATION, OFFERINGS, EXPENDITURE Fees for registration were deposited into the Extravaganza Bank Account by Districts Coordinators. In some
instances individual members also made their deposits, which resulted in administrative problems. All expenses
incurred by the Council in executing Council activities: transport, stationery, calls, fax, emails, making ID cards,
buying ID pockets and charts, catering for meetings, buying Holy Communion packages, hiring of band and
video, decorations, etc were paid from the Extravaganza income as stated in the Extravaganza Draft Policy. The
Finance Committee has filed proofs of all expenditure for purpose of verification. All income and expenditure
were well administered and managed by the Finance Committee and their summary report is attached. Members
from Districts who were requested to work with finance committee did a wonderful job during collection and
counting. God bless you!We praise God for Members who sacrificed their time and efforts to ensure that the
finances are well accounted for.
