    TheSMARTFINDGMDSSNAVTEXhasbeendesignedtomeettherequirementsofIMO(IntentionalMaritimeOrganisation)MSC.148(77)andIECtechnicalstandard61097-6(Ed2.0).

    TheSMARTFINDGMDSSNAVTEXhasthreeseparatereceiverchannels,oneeachtunedto490kHz,518kHzand4209.5kHz.TheSMARTFINDGMDSSNAVTEXwill

    receiveonallthreefrequenciessimultaneouslyinthosepartsoftheworldwheretransmissionsareavailable(refertoAppendix1).

    TheSMARTFINDGMDSSNAVTEXcanbesetuptofilteroutstationsand/ormessagecategoriesthatarenotrequiredbytheUser.

    TheSMARTFINDGMDSSNAVTEXiscapableofbeingconnectedtoanIntegratedBridgeSystem(IBS),transferringNAVTEXmessagestoothernavigationalaidsifrequired.NotethattheIBSmustbecompliantwiththeserialportrequirementsofIEC61097-6(Ed2.0).

    inalocationwhereitcannoteasilybedamaged.

    INTRODUCTION

    NAVTEXisamethodoftransmittingnavigationalwarningsandweatherforecastsfromdesignatedcoastradiostations.AllEnglishlanguagetransmissionsaremadeonthe518kHzNAVTEXchannel.EachNAVTEXstationisallocatedseveraltimeslotsduringthedaywhenitispermittedtotransmit,normallyatfourhourlyintervals.Theexceptionstothisaregalewarningsandsearchandrescuemessageswhichmaybe

    transmittedatanytime.

    Receptionof518kHzNAVTEXtransmissionsisnormallylimitedtoanareaof200-300milesradiusaroundeachtransmittingstation,althoughconsiderablygreaterrangesarepossibleatnight.SubjecttoIMOapproval,additionallocallanguagetransmissionsaresenton490kHzandon4209.5kHz,SMARTFINDGMDSSNAVTEXsupportssimultaneousreceptionofallthreeNAVTEXchannels.

    DesignedtothelatestInternationalspecifications,SMARTFINDGMDSSNAVTEX

    meetsIMOrequirementsunderGMDSSandisdesignedforsimplicityofoperation.ItwillprovideuptodateMSI(MarineSafetyInformation)andweatherforecastsandissuitableforusebyallclassesofcommercialvesselsandlargepleasurecraft.ItwilldisplayandstoreNAVTEXmessageswithoutmanualinterventionwithindesignatedareasofNAVTEXservicecoverage.

    IfthevesselislocatedwithinthecoverageareaofseveralNAVTEXstations(particularlyatnight),theSMARTFINDGMDSSNAVTEXmayoverwhelmyouwithinformation.Itcanthereforebesetuptodisplayonlythosestationsandmessagecategoriesyouwanttoreceiveandwhichareapplicabletotheareainwhichthevesseliscurrentlysailing.

    Normally,routineNAVTEXmessagesarerepeatedatfourhourlyintervals.ProvidedthattheSMARTFINDGMDSSNAVTEXisleftrunning,repeatedmessagesarenotdisplayedmorethanonce.Eachmessageisretainedforthreedays(72hours)afteritslastreceptionbeforebeingautomaticallydeleted,unlessthemessagehasbeenmarkedaslocked.

    ReceivingNAVTEXmessages

    WhentheSMARTFINDGMDSSNAVTEXbeginstoreceiveasignal,oneormoreofthereceivericonsatthetopofthescreenwillappeartoindicatewhichofthereceiversisactive.

    Whenacompletemessagehasbeenreceived,apop-upappearsonthedisplayindicatingthatanewmessageisavailableandthe"unreadmessage"iconflashes.ThemessagecanbereadbypressingtheEnterkey,orthepopupcanberemovedwithoutreadingthemessagebypressingtheRightkey.Aseachnewmessageis

    received,theSMARTFINDGMDSSNAVTEXmayalsogenerateasingleshortbeeptoattractattentiontothenewmessage.ThisaudiblealertcanbedisabledontheSetupmode:Systemoptionspageifitisnotrequired.

    Anymessagesthatarenotreadimmediatelywillbemarkedwiththe"unreadmessage"symbolinboththeIndexandSummarymodes.The"unreadmessage"

    iconatthetopofthedisplaycontinuestoflashuntilallmessageshavebeenread.

    NotethatwhilethepopupNavtexmessageboxisondisplayonlytheEnterorRightbuttonshaveanyeffect;allotherkeysaredisableduntilthepopupboxisremoved.

    RS422signallinesmayneedterminationresistorsatthefarendoftheserialcableconnectedtotheSMARTFINDGMDSSNAVTEX,dependingonthelengthofconnectingcableandtherateofdatatransmission.BothCOM1&2intheSMARTFINDGMDSSNAVTEXhaveinbuilt100terminationresistorsforbothTx
