OVERVIEW

2018 HIGHLIGHTSWorld over the industry is moving towards reducing carbon footprint as globalwarming is now a reality. About 70 percent of total generated electrical energygenerated in India is consumed by Electric motor applications. Improvingefficiency of the motor is therefore a Key. It is estimated that Electric motorswith improved efficiency, can potentially save about 7% of the total worldwideelectrical energy.

This led for an innate need to revise existing BIS standard IS 12615:2004 tosynchronize with the international standards. This will lead Indian motormanufacturers to be in line with international code of standards and practices.This will also serve as benchmark for having uniform test procedures forcomparing performance and energy efficiency of motors.

As per statistics a huge majority of installed motors are in the range of 0.37kWto 375kW which are covered by revised standard IS 12615:2011. IndianManufactures are thus aligning to Global Standards.
