Dear Potomac Assembly Brother Knights:

It is difficult to believe that with Pentecost Sunday on May 20th, the Easter season comes to an end. The

more years I spend as a priest, the better I understand why people say that one can never really exhaust the

riches of that wonderful liturgical season. After a solemn Lenten season and an intense Holy Week, the

bright shades of the Easter Sunday readings and the readings after that emphasize the mystery of the resurrec-

tion of Jesus. In the Acts of the Apostles, which is read at every Sunday during Easter, we experience the

aftershocks of the event that affected every aspect of humanity and the universe itself. He is Risen as He

said!

On a lighter note, I am aware that the week after Pentecost Sunday is Memorial Day weekend. I want to say

a prayer for all of those brother Knights who paid the ultimate price in service of Our Country. May Mary,

the Morning Star, lead them to their Eternal Rest. There are also some members of the Assembly who will

be moving to other parts of the country this summer. I wish to thank you for all of the great work you have

done on behalf of the Knights of Columbus. I will continue to pray for all of you this summer as you take

time off to be with your loved ones wherever this summer will take you.

God bless!

Obituary for SK Stephen D’Antoni

Stephen D'Antoni, born on June 15, 1941 passed away on April 13, 2018. He graduated from New York City College

with a Bachelor’s degree. Stephen was employed as a federal employee; working as an electrical engineer at the Nor-

folk Naval shipyard in Portsmouth, VA. Stephen often volunteered with Habitat for Humanity doing various things

such as repairing homes, along with being very involved in church activities; he was a Sacristan and a member of the

Knights of Columbus.

Traveling, reading and contributing to the community were just some of Stephen's day to day hobbies. Stephen is pre-

deceased in death by his parents: J ohn and Rose D'Antoni; Survived by his sister: Frances A. D'Antoni of Tampa,

Florida. Stephen will be missed by many, but never forgotten!!

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The American Heart - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Additional words from the Faith Navigator, Stephen served the Basilica of Saint Mary in numerous ways, most promi-

nently as a key sacristan and a member of several devotional organizations. He joined the Fitzgerald Council of the

Knights of Columbus on August 15, 2016 and rose quickly through the degrees. He took his Patriotic Degree on April

1, 2017 and became a Sir Knight with membership in the Potomac Assembly 2204.

We will remember Stephen D’Antoni for his humor, his quiet yet powerful service to the Church, his devotion to

friends, and his steady support for the Basilica’s apostolic work. Interment will be in Tampa, Florida, at a date yet to

be determined.

Brother Sir Knights,

due to the Memorial Day Holiday, our meeting this month is on Tuesday, May 29, at 7:30 pm. It is an important

meeting because we will be voting on the proposed slate of officers that was passed out at our last social/business

meeting. We will also be taking nominations from the floor for anyone that is interested in becoming an officer and

was missed by the slate selection committee. The Sir Knights voted in will be installed on June 25. The Master has

not said who will conduct the ceremony.

This election points out that the year is almost over and a new group will lead us going forward. Looking back, it has

been a very good year. Father Baez became our Faithful Friar and has done a marvelous job. He has given us great

words of wisdom both at our meetings and in our NavLog. We brought in 12 new members, laid a wreath and toured

Arlington, had a couple of movie nights, and our Friar said a Mass in December to end the year followed by a break-

fast at Murphy’s. There were also a number of socials put on by our Faithful Captain Ed Stance. SK Ray Duff led a

monthly Patriotic Rosary and after the May rosary we worked with the Boy Scouts to do a flag retirement. All of

these were really good times. On a sad note, we said farewell to several old friends and longtime Knights. We were

able to honor them by providing a Color Corps standing watch at their wakes and for their funerals and burials. We

also fought the good fight to retain our traditional regalia. We won a small victory when the regalia was extended to

June 2019. Taking advantage of this extension, the Color Corps supported many interesting events. We served at the

Father Capodanno Mass, the Sea Service Mass, marched in the Saint Patrick’s Day and George Washington’s Day

parades, attended Confirmations, Simbang Gabi Mass, and many other events. The Color Corps has been great to

work with under the direction of the Color Corps Commander Ray Duff and now the new Color Corps Commander

Fred Beata.

I am very grateful to all the Sir Knights that have supported me and our activities this last year. I am confident that

we will show the same support to the new Faithful Navigator, currently slated Ed Stance. I pray that under the guid-

ance of our Faithful Friar, we will continue to do good works and grow in our spirituality.

Mary Queen of the Knights, Pray for Us.

YBIC,

Buck
