Land Protection:
Preserves: These are lands the WLTC owns. Although all WLTC Preserves are open to the public, only a handful has hiking trails. Please note that hunting is only allowed on designated Preserves, as noted in this publication. Please contact our office for more information. We prohibit off-road vehicles, snowmobiles, camping, fires, removal of vegetation, littering and dumping. Nature Areas: These are one or more contiguous Preserves and/or Conservation Easement protected properties. Conservation Easements: These are private lands whose conservation values are permanently protected. Land Stewardship:
It is the Conservancy’s charge to manage Preserves and Conservation Easements in perpetuity. Although our Land Protection Specialist annually monitors all Conservation Easements, we rely on volunteer monitors and our corps of trail keepers to help with the management and maintenance of our Preserves. If you would like to volunteer as a Preserve monitor or join our corps of trail keepers, please contact our office.

Dedication:
The Walloon Lake Trust and Conservancy’s Nature Preserves Guide is dedicated to the Walloon Lake Association who, in 1978, had the foresight that led to the formation of the Trust and Conservancy for charitable purposes. We are indebted to our talented pool of Trustees and Committee members, our tireless corps of Preserve monitors and trail keepers and our knowledgeable and dedicated staff. The real credit goes to our scores of supporters who fund our Endowment, gift land, protect their land with Conservation Easements and make annual contributions to the Guardian Fund Annual Giving Campaign. Since the Walloon Lake Trust and Conservancy is a charitable organization, we rely on our volunteers and our supporters’ annual tax deductible contributions that help keep our mission alive. Walloon Forever!
The Damschroder Service Award:
In 2010 the Walloon Lake Trust and Conservancy and the Walloon Lake Association established this Award in order to recognize individuals who have enduring commitment to service for furthering the mission to preserve and protect the quality of Walloon Lake and its watershed. Fittingly, the Award is named after Al and Jane Damschroder who have unselfishly served to promote land preservation and stewardship for more than 25 years.
