As a professional Beauty Therapist it is extremely important to educate your clientele about the importance of post peel care and the possible outcomes.Beauty Therapists have asked us these common questions, therefore we must initially establish the area of therapist/client concern. We have detailed below some of these commonly asked questions.

Why has my client had a reaction to the peel?Firstly, you must define what a “reaction” is. Sometimes, what a client or Therapist views as a “reaction” is actually quite normal You must make it very clear to your client that the Pelactiv Systems 1 Blue, 2 Yellow and 3 Red will actively stimulate the skin. This can be seen as pinkness or redness to certain areas. Following a Pelactiv treatment they may also experience flakiness a few days afterwards. These symptoms are completely normal due to the increased circulation within the skin. Prescribe Precious Oils to soothe, nourish and hydrate the areas. A more severe reaction is extreme redness, undue heat and swelling in which case you will need to determine if there have been any contributing factors.

There are other reasons that clients’ skins react following a peel. After gentle questioning, you will generally find that the client has not been following the careful instructions that you would have given them, and are usually at fault. Questions you may want to ask your client:

- Have you been in the sun?- Have you been drinking/smoking excessively?- Have you undertaken vigorous exercise?- What products have you used on your skin?- Have you applied any self-tan products to the treated area?- Heavily perfumed or chemically laden products may cause reactions.

More often than not, the reason for their reaction would relate to one of the above.

Why is my clients skin flaking?Most clients react favourably to the Systems with the end result of the treatment being a hydrated, soft and glowing look. However some more sensitive skin types will visibly flake a couple of days afterwards. This is completely normal, and in fact a positive result. It is a sign that the peel is loosening and exfoliating dead layers of skin. Please encourage regular use of Precious Oils to nourish, hydrate and sooth. Remember that the areas around the eyes and upper cheeks are more sensitive as the skin is much thinner – professional discretion is required.

Can my client go into the sun after a peel?It is important to advise your client that they should avoid direct sunlight for 48 hours following a peel. AHA peels do not cause photosensitivity, however the skin has just been professionally exfoliated and it is recommended clients use Pelactiv SPF30+ Face Lotion for maximum protection.
