Insurance against Losses from Natural Disasters in Developing
Natural disasters in Developing Countries
description
Transcript of Natural disasters in Developing Countries
There are two key issues here:
• due to their location, many LEDCs experience more natural disasters than MEDCs
• due to their poverty, the impacts of these natural disasters is greater than similar one in MEDCs would be.
We’re going to explore these through the following maps. Use them to add annotation to the outline map of the world in your notes.
A map showing the locations of hurricanes and cyclones across the world. Add the locations to your outline map and include some annotation which answers the following question: to what extent to tropical storms tend to affect LEDCs more than MEDCs?
A map showing the risk of death from drought across the world. Again, sketch this information onto your map and include annotation describing where the greatest risks of death from drought are.
Highest risk of death
Lower risk of death White areas have no real risk of death from drought.
A map showing where most deforestation is occurring. Cutting down of trees can lead to soil erosion, making farming less effective. Mark on to your map the areas where forest loss is occurring and where forest gain is occurring. Add annotation to answer this question: to what extent are LEDCs suffering more from loss of forest land?
