FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK…
As you may be aware, parishes throughout the Diocese have been asked by Bishop Malone to conduct a count of the number of people attending weekend Masses for three consecutive weekends during the month of April. The counting was initiated last weekend and will con-clude on April 28/29. A team of three people have been assigned to conduct the count, two individuals from St. John Paul II parish in Lake View, and one member from our own parish. (In turn, two parishioners from our parish are assisting with the count at Our Lady of the Sa-cred Heart in Orchard Park.) The Mass attendance project came forth from the Diocesan Pres-byteral (Priest) Council’s concerns about the spiritual welfare of the priests and people of the Diocese, particularly with respect to the liturgical life in the parishes and the number of Masses celebrated. I quote from a letter to the priests of the Diocese from Bishop Malone dated March 5, 2018:
It was recommended to me that a task force be formed consisting of a few members of the Council, other priests, and a member of the Diocesan Ad-ministration This task force will begin a comprehensive study and research of our parish weekend Mass schedules. Of paramount importance is the spiritual and physical health of our priests, as well as the vibrant celebration of the Eucharist in all of our parishes. More specifically, the task force will be reviewing the Mass schedules to assure that our parishes have the appro-priate number of weekend Masses. This research will include an emphasis on strengthening the prayerful celebration of the Eucharist.
I want to emphasize, as was clarified in a subsequent communication by the Bishop to the priests on April 3, that this is simply a fact-finding project and no decisions have been made at this point. After the numbers from the Mass count are returned to the Vicars (heads of the various Diocesan regions), they will be brought to the task force for study, and then recom-mendations made to the Bishop.
Indeed, may God Bless and guide all those involved in making decisions regarding the well-being of the people of the parishes and the priests who minister to them.

CATHOLIC TRIVIA QUESTION
One of the cardinal virtues of the Church, those with this virtue are known
to have great self-control. What virtue is this? Answer on page 4

SEEDS OF CHANGE
After learning about the shocking childhood poverty rate of forty-four percent in the city of Buffalo, Olivia Larson, a sophomore at Mount Mercy Academy, decided she would like to do something to com-bat childhood poverty and its effects in our community. Donations will be collected for Gerard Place and Western New York Family Promise. Items needed are crib sheets, mattress covers, diapers, Band-Aids, children’s cold medicine, wash cloths, pencils, new children’s socks of all sizes, books, and plastic plates bowls, and cups. A collection box will be locat-ed in the narthex.
COMING IN JUNE - A NEW WAY TO
GIVE
Nativity of Our Lord is pleased to an-nounce the introduction of an electronic op-tion for making regular offerings. Contribu-tions can soon be debited automatically from your checking or savings account [or pro-cessed using your credit or debit card] .Our new electronic giving program offers con-venience for you, much-needed donation consistency for our congregation's steward-ship and a chance to be more environmental-ly conscious. More information will be published on our website and in future newsletters. This is not replacing the envelope system, but rather another option for our parishioners to sup-port Nativity and its many ministries.

Anyone interested in getting in on the ground floor of this exciting new min-istry is invited to attend the group's third meeting scheduled for April 19th at 6:30, upstairs in the Welcome Center - no commitment is required. (Fact: Life begins at conception. A baby's heart begins to beat at 18 days.)
CATHOLIC HOME MISSIONS
Next weekend, April 28/29, is our collection for Catholic Home Missions appeal. This appeal supports the dioceses here in our own country, like Juneau, Alaska, that struggle to make ends meet and serve all of the needs of their parishion-ers. It is through your generosity that many churches are able to keep their doors open and provide essential pastoral ser-vices. Your gifts help to provide liturgical and educational supplies, assisting priests to offer the Eucharist and other sacraments. Your generosity brings Christ’s message of love, compassion and reconciliation.
