Christ University Christ University was established as Christ College in the year 1969 with the
motto „Excellence and Service‟ to provide quality education to the young
generation. Christ University was affiliated to Bangalore University till it attained
“Deemed University” status in July 2008. It has the rare distinction of being the
first institution to be reaccredited by NAAC with A+ grade for quality education.
Today, Christ University has become the most preferred institution within a
span of four decades.
Department of Psychology
The Department of Psychology offers UG, PG, MPhil, PhD and Allied courses in
Psychology with an aim of instilling a critical perspective in budding
psychologists, so that they can make informed decisions in their professions
lives.
The Department also conducts various academic programmes like National
Level Paper Presentation Competition for undergraduate students, Annual
National Workshop, National Conference.
Workshop Objectives
1. To orient the participants to the relevance of qualitative research
methodology to research in psychology.
2. To explain the paradigm of qualitative research methodology in terms of
its characteristics, process, assumptions, and values.
3. To provide an overview of the methods of qualitative research, including
life histories, in depth unstructured interviewing, focus group discussions,
group interviews, and participant observation.
4. To provide an introduction to data analysis within the paradigm of
qualitative research methodology.
NOTE:
It is not the objective of this workshop to teach specific analysis techniques in qualitative research.
Such techniques for qualitative analysis are taught in a separate workshop over a 3 or 4 day period,
after this basic workshop
is completed by the participants

Resource Person
Dr. Rajshri Mahtani is the founder convenor of Knowledge Whiteboard, a capacity
building organisation for NGOs in Mumbai. She has been teaching at the Post
graduate and Doctoral levels with emphasis on Qualitative methodology, practise
based research, child rights and strategic management of NGOs. She has been a
faculty member of Tata Institute of Social Sciences. She has conducted over 50
training programs and workshops with academic organisations and NGOs. She has
several research projects and publications to her credit
