Cast Biographies

Monet Valerga, age 17 Monet is ecstatic to be performing in her first musical with EDMT. Her theater credits include Anne o{Gre.en Gables, The Hobbit, and A Midsummer Night's Dream. She is grateful for this opportunity and thanks everyone for their support!

Eliza Vance, age 13 This is Eliza's eighth show with EDMT and she is so excited to be a part of Disney 's The Little Mermaid! She wou ld like to thank everyone who has made this production such a success! She hopes you enjoy the show! Break a leg everyone '

Eva Van Winkle, age 11 Eva is thrilled to be performing in her fourth EDMT show. When she is not on stage, Eva enjoys reading, playing soccer and dancing. She would like to dedicate this show to her younger sister, who has always dreamed of being a mermaid. She hopes you enjoy the show!

Andrei Villanueva, age 12 Andrei is excited to perform in his sixth show' Favorite roles include Enjolras/ Les Miserables School Edition, Young Shrek/ Shrek Jr. and Candy Kid/ Willy Wonka. Andrei also loves video games, basketball, and cello.

Luke Villanueva, age 16 This is Luke 's ninth show! Favorite roles include Sonny/ fn the Heights, Jack Kelly/ Newsies and Jean Valjean/ Les Miserables School Edit.ion (2018 Elly nom inated). Th is is also h is second year with High Voltage.

Abigail Waymire, age 11 This is Abbie's fifth show with EDMT and she is excited to tap on stage for the first time. Special thanks to her parents for their support and to Debbie, Jen, and Anjic for all their hard work and dedication in putting this amazing production together!

lzzy Weaver, age 16 lzzy is beyond thrilled to be a part of th is "fin"tastic show! Past roles include Wendy/ Peter Pan, and Mae Peterson/ Bye Bye Birdie. She can't wait for you to become part of this world, and is so gratefu l/honored to bring this little mermaid to li fe !

Evan Weishaar, age 10 Evan is excited to be a part of EDMT's first time Disney production of Disney's The Little Mermaid. This will be his third Main Stage show. His past productions have been Peter Pan as Tootles, Willy Wonka and three training shows. Life is bubbles under the sea!

Alex Wessling, age 1 S Alex is excited to be performing in her 12th EDMT show. In her free time, she enjoys hanging out with friends and watching movies. Alex is also a member of EDMT's Tap Company and has been performing with them for two years.

Zach Wilson, age 19 This is Zach's 48th EDMT show. Past Roles include Hook/ Peter Pan, Albert/Bye Bye Birdie, Beast/Disney's Beauty and the Beast, and Bert/Mary Poppins. This is his tenth year as a member of High Voltage. He also works on the design and tech side of EDMT.

Alexandra Witte, age 11 Alex is super excited to be performing in Disney's The Little Mermaid, her seventh EDMT production! She is grateful for the opportunity to learn and perform with such a great group. When not performing, Alex enjoys hanging out with her friends and watching Friends!

Ashley Wright, age 1 S Ashley is thrilled to be playing Aquata in her 12th EDMT show. Her favorite past shows include 42nd Street and A Christmas Carol. She would like to thank Debbie, Jen and Anjie for this opportunity!

A Note From The Director

-and I will be part of your world.

Hans Christian Andersen wrote The Little Mermaid in 1836. As with most fairy tales of the time, it did not have a very joyful ending.

In 1989, The Little M ermaid b ecame Disney's 28th animated feature film to b e released. It had a far more joyful ending! Th e movie grossed $2 11 million worldwide and marked the start of the era known as the Disney Renaissance.

Nineteen years later, in 2008, Broadway welcomed the stage adaptation of the film to the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre, where it ran for 735 performances.

It is no small feat bringing this story to life.

How do you create an underwater world on stage? How do you bring to life sea animals and mystical ch aracters? How do you make a beloved animated film into a live, theatrical experience?

By using the superpower that is imagination. Fortunately , we have quite a contingent of people with that superpower! And, this is a show of many firsts for us.

Though all of our staff h ave gone above and beyond, this show posed new challen ges for some departments.

Our costume department has been particularly creative and prolific for this show. Our costume designer and a troop of fabulously dedicated people have worked coun tless hours and have truly outdone themselves.

Over 425 yards of fabric were purchased from Los Angeles, San Diego , and Arizona for the 271 costumes that were made in our shop. 166 h eadpieces have been built. There are 43 wigs, all of which n eeded to be styled. This is the fir st t ime we had to ask ourselves, "How does a performer do a quick ch an ge on stage, in the air?"

The hours spent designing, building, painting, plastering, and decora ting the set is more than we can count. This production features EDMT's first automated set piece. It is the boat seen in "Kiss the Girl" that we have nickn amed "Roboboat." Creating Roboboat was a huge undertaking. Fortunately , we know a couple of geniuses who made it possible!

Speaking of new ch allenges, the projections designer had the task of making the transitions from land to sea well defined and clear to the audience. The projections in this show have more animation than any previous EDMT production.

As the curtain rises, please allow your imagination to lead you through this story about and a girl who has the determination to go after her dreams, and a fath er who is blinded b y his love for his daughter. No matter how much we love someon e, we can't always protect them. Sometimes we h ave to let them go, so that they can flourish . I hope you get swept away to ano ther world in another time as yo u go on this journ ey with us under the sea.

Staff Biographies

Debbie Wilson oJREcroR

One of the found ers of EDMT, Debbie has been the artistic director for eighteen years, and has led EDMT to become one of the premier musical theatre companies for yo uth in the Western United States. She has further helped performers obtain crucial skills by founding EDMT's Performing Arts Institute in 2003.

While musical theater is Debbie's first love, she has wide-ranging experi ence including large-scale choreography for events ranging from the Olympics and Superbowl to the World Cup, Pro Bowl, and San Francisco Black and White Balls.

In theater, she h as performed in, directed and/ or choreographed hundreds of productions including: 42nd Street, Pippin, Oklahoma!, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Peter Pan, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, West Side Story, Chicago, Follies, Les Miserables, A Chorus Line, Hairspray, and Anything Goes with Chita Rivera.

Debbie is the recipient of sixteen regional theatre awards for choreography, direction, and performance. She has been honored by the Interfaith Bureau of Sacramento and the California Assembly for h er work with young people .

Her students have gone on to perform on Broadway, in national tours, in international concert tap companies, modern dance companies, on cruise ships, and in TV and film.

Debbie taught for American Musical Theater of San Jose and was dance chairperson for the professional training and summer youth programs for twenty years. She also headed the dance department at Lincoln High Performing Arts Magnet. She has taught for many prestigious youth organizations and has been recognized repeatedly for h er excellence and contributions to youth. ·

Debbie is proud to be a founder ofEl Dorado Musical Theatre and its artistic director. She lives in El Dorado Hills with her daughter Anjie Rose and her son Zach ary.

Anjie Rose Wilson cHoREOGRAPHER

Anjie went to her first EDMT rehearsal the day after she turned six and this year marks h er 18th year with EDMT. Dedicated to dance, Anj ie Rose Wilson has studied jazz, tap, ballet, hip-hop, and lyrical styles for over seventeen years.

She has been on staff for EDMT's training shows for ten years; starting as the assistant choreographer, and later becoming the programs's primary choreograpjl.er. Anjie has been apprenticing for years as the assistant choreographer and associate choreographer for almost twenty EDMT Main Stage, Rising Star, and Encore productions as well as for High Voltage. Disney's The Little Mermaid marks the fifth EDMT Main Stage production she h as choreograph ed.

Anjie has been an instructor for EDMT's Performing Arts Institute since 2012 and she teaches a range of classes starting with four- to six-year-olds through the older teens . Her classes challenge even the more seasoned performers and the fittest young dancers. Some might refer to her classes as "dance boot camp." She has gone to New York City to participate in the audition-only Rockette Summ er Intensive for four years. Starting from it's inception, Anj ie spent eight years as a member of ElDorado Musical Theatre's Tour Group, High Voltage, and now co-choreographs their shows.

Anjie has been in 50 EDMT productions in roles such as Dolly Levi/Hello, Dolly', Morticia Ad dams/ The Addams Family, Sharpay Evans/ Disney's High School Musical, and Mrs. Meers/ Thoroughly Modern Millie .


St:aff Biographies

Jennifer Wittmayer vocAL DIREnoR

Jennifer Wittmayer h as b een teaching children's musical theatre in the Sacramento region and Bay Area since 1998 and is thrilled to once again work with the ta lented youn g people of EDMT! She holds a BA in Music from Santa Clara University and a Masters in Music from th e San Francisco Conservatory of Music. Jennifer h as served as vocal director for Children's Musical Theatre of San Jose and h as directed musical theater programs for Fair Oaks and Elk Grove Park Districts.

Jennifer is celeb rating her eleventh season with EDMT and has served as vocal director for over 30 shows, including: Thoroughly Modern Millie, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Les Mis erables, Crazy for You, Cats, Curtains, Legally Blonde, and Singin' in the Rain. Jennifer is the vocal director for EDMT's touring company, High Voltage, and conducts private vocal instruction.

Karen McConnell costuME DESIGNER

Karen has b een a part of th e El Dorado Musical Theatre's team since 2006. She was involved on a volunteer basis for many years, working as a stagehand, sewing, costuming for High Voltage and working as assistant costumer on many productions including Cats, Shrek The Musical, and The Wizard of OZ. Sh e took on the role of costume designer in 2016 with EDMT's Disney's A lice in Wonderland JR. Since that time she has created costumes for shows including 42nd Street, Bye Bye Birdie and Disney's Beauty and the Beast. She loves to add glitter and sparkle and her signature tiny details called 'Lobby Candy' that can only be seen when you meet the actors close up.

Karen owned the award-winning children's boutiqu e, Starlight Star b r ight, for 14 years and just recently retired. She studied voice at the University of Michigan and the University of Arizona and is a classically trained soprano. She performs with the Sacramento Choral Society and Orch estra throughout the year and will tour with SCSO in Europe this summer performing Mozart's Requiem.

Karen has been married for over 32 years, is mother to two amazing women, motherin-law to an outstanding U.S. Naval Nuclear Engineer, and 'Mimi' to two glor iously giggly granddaughters .

Margie Rudolph AssociATE cosruME DESIGNER

Margie has been part of EDMT's talented costume team and has design ed and created hats an d headpieces for over 30 EDMT productions. H er favorite creation s include hats for the Mad Hatter/ Alice in Wonderland JR, Dolly LevijHello, Dolly', Mary PoppinsjMary Poppins and Captain HookjPeter Pan.

She has been the lead milliner for a list of shows which include The Wizard of OZ, Shrek the Musical, Willy Wonka, and 42nd Street, and was the assis tant costumer for Disney's Beauty and the Beast.

Margie loves the creative process of costuming and enjoys pushing the limits with design and materials wh en adding the finishing touch of custom headpieces to the fabulous costumes that are designed for our p erformers . Happily married for over 31 years, Margie calls Folsom h er home and shares h er creative life and h er h eart with her wonderful husband, and her amazing daughter, son and daughter-in-law.
