2030 Goals for Water Polo in Australia: • The Australian Waterpolo League (AWL) is a high-quality fully funded, truly national, competition, with Clubs underpinned by active affiliate clubs who in turn are

supported by their AWL• WPA conducts National Junior Events with the majority of clubs participating• The players, coaches and officials development framework is firmly established, well understood and is delivering sustained International success and a high level of

competition throughout the sport• We hold realistic expectations of being in the mix for medals at benchmark international events.

STRATEGIC PRIORITIES PROJECTS 2020 TO 2022 TARGETS – JUNE 30, 2022

4.1 Collaboratively deliver a successful, effective National Performance Framework

4.1.1 Develop an integrated National Performance Framework (NPF) that recognises and enhances the contribution made by all stakeholders. 4.1.2 Develop a strong communication network between athletes, coaches, clubs, NIN and WPA to monitor athletes and better understand progress, plateaus, entries and exits of players, coaches and referees.4.1.3 Deliver clear multi-year integrated Performance plans for all National Programs to deliver success of National Teams at benchmark events. 4.1.4 Deliver an effective, wellbeing and engagement framework to manage athletes, coaches’ and referees’ development into, through and out of National programs.

• >80% of stakeholders in Performance system feel valued• >80% of surveyed members believe selection processes are

fair and transparent• >80% of PONI Athletes progress to Local A Grade (longitudinal

analysis) • Australian Teams reach Semi Finals of the Tokyo Olympics

and FINA 2022 World Championships

4.2 Identify, develop and support players, coaches and officials to progress and succeed

4.2.1 Develop and implement a talent identification, development, and management framework to maximise the development of athletes, coaches, and referees with the appropriate characteristics to succeed at the senior International level.4.2.2 Provide opportunities, through the National Competition Framework and National Performance Programs for aspiring coaches and referees to learn, develop and excel. 4.2.3 Provide the appropriate levels of support and expertise around the National teams to maximise their chances of success in Benchmark Events.

• >80% satisfaction with TID process• >3 strong local candidates for each National Coaching role

advertised. • At least 3 players are considered genuine candidates for

each position in the Sharks and Stingers Teams.• >80% of Surveyed coaches and referees feel supported to

develop and progress

4.3 Deliver an aspirational Premier National Competition

4.3.1 Develop and implement National League License agreements where Clubs are empowered, incentivised, in a financially sustainable manner. 4.3.2 WPA to work collaboratively with National League Clubs, Club Coaches, National Coaches and WPA staff to deliver a high quality, integrated Daily Training Environment.

• Clarity of National Competition Calendar• 100% of AWL Clubs are progressing towards the aspirational

targets in license agreements• All AWL Clubs are operating at Level 2 or above on 75% of the

criteria described in the Daily Training Environment audit by the end of 2022 season

PURPOSE

OBJECTIVES

• To identify, develop and optimise Australia’s best Talent to excel on the International stage, in a manner that optimises the involvement of key stakeholders and inspires future generations to follow.

• To develop and refine the Australian Way which describes the attitude, culture and style of play, that affords Australian teams a competitive advantage against the leading International teams and to ensure it is imbedded in programs across Australia.

• To develop and continually refine the understanding of the characteristics of successful performers and utilise this information to inform the talent identification and development processes for players, coaches and referees at all levels.

• To implement a thorough, affordable, collaborative National Age Group Program to optimise the development of identified players, coaches and referees with the attributes to produce sustainable and successful International performances

• To effectively integrate all elements of the Performance system that contribute to the development of successful National senior teams.

The National Performance Framework (NPF) seeks to integrate all of the key stakeholders in the Performance system within Australian Water Polo to ensure that collectively the system produces exceptional outcomes and maximises the limited resources available.

Those key components are:
