Whereas few foreigners know the story of the peoples who came to be citizens of the United States, nor the story of the people from their own nations who came to this land;
Whereas a museum telling the story of the making of the people of the United States and celebrating all who mi-grated and settled in the present day United States, from the very first to the most recent, belongs near the Na-tional Mall in Washington, DC;
Whereas the National Museum of the American People would serve as a resource to assist State, local, and ethnic mu-seums throughout the Nation present exhibits that cele-brate the heritage of the people of the United States;
Whereas non-Federal sources will be sought to provide full funding for a Presidential Commission to study establish-ment of the Museum and that such sums will commence when the President signs an Executive Order creating a bipartisan Presidential Commission; and
Whereas non-Federal sources are anticipated to provide full funding to design and build the Museum, its exhibitions and its components: Now, therefore, be it

Support a Congressional Resolution Calling For a Presidential Study Commission For the National Museum of the American People
Why Build This Museum? n The U.S. was uniquely created and
built by peoples from every land, and these people made this nation the world’s economic, military, scientific and cultural leader.
n The Museum will be America’s only national institution devoted exclusively to telling the full story of the making of the American People.
n The Museum will celebrate all of the peoples who came to this land and this nation.
n The story about the migration and immigration of those who became Americans is compelling.
n The Museum has support from most ethnic/minority groups in the nation.
n The Museum will foster a sense of belonging to the nation by integrating the mosaic of people that have come here and it will contribute to our national identity.
n Both Canada and Mexico have major national immigration museums in their capitals and they are the most visited museums in those nations.
MuSeuM CoMPoNeNTS — Permanent Exhibition telling the Story of the American People, a national genealogical center, a Center for the Advanced Studies of the American People, a film center, a Peopling of America program designating key migration/immigration sites, an educational resource center, restaurants, a book store and gift shop.
MuSeuM FoCuS — For all of the different groups who became Americans, the Museum will tell who they were, where they came from, when they came, why they left their homeland, how they got here, where they first settled, who was already here, what they encountered, where they moved after they arrived, how they became Americans and how they transformed our nation.
The NATioNAl MuSeuM oF The AMeRiCAN PeoPle — The Museum will tell the story of ALL of the American People from prehistoric times to the present and advance and disseminate knowledge of that story. All of the money to design and build the museum and its components and exhibitions will come from non-appropriated funds.
SCholARly iNSTiTuTioN — The Museum will be a scholarly institution; there are already more than 50 eminent scholars who focus on migration and immigration of different peoples who support this effort.
CoAliTioN FoR The NATioNAl MuSeuM oF The AMeRiCAN PeoPle The Coalition consists of more than 140 organizations that represent more than 50 different American ethnic, minority, nationality and genealogical groups who advocate for creation of the Museum.
TiMeliNe — If the Congressional Resolution is adopted this year, the Museum could open in 2018-19.
SiTeS FoR The MuSeuM — There are a variety of sites near the National Mall in Washington designated for museums by the U. S. Commission of Fine Arts, the National Capital Planning Commission and the National Park Service. The Commission will explore these various possibilities.
PReSideNTiAl CoMMiSSioN — The Commission will be a bipartisan, diverse body of distinguished Americans that will take approximately nine months to develop and present a report to the President and Congress about the feasibility of establishing the Museum. The money to fund the Commission will come from non-appropriated funds.
CoMMiSSioN AgeNdA — The Commission will study the story the Museum will tell, possible sites in Washington, the Museum’s mission, potential audiences, costs, fund-raising plan, how it can help state and local ethnic museums, whether or not it should be part of the Smithsonian, and components of the Museum. It will develop a plan to create the museum.
CoAliTioN goAl — To have a bipartisan Presidential Commission created to study establishment of the museum and to have the House and Senate adopt bipartisan resolutions urging creation of the Commission.
MuSeuM’S SToRy — The Museum’s story will be told in four chapters:
I The First Peoples Come (prehistoric period – 1607);
II The Nation Takes Form (1607 – 1820);III The Great In-Gathering (1820 – 1924); IV And Still They Come (1924 – present).
MuSeuM ViSiToRShiP — People from every ethnic and minority group will come to see their story and learn about all of the others, and foreign visitors will come to learn how natives of their countries helped create our nation.
All of the money to design and build the museum and
its components and exhibitions will come from non-appropriated funds.

E Pluribus Unum [From Many We Are One] — Original
National Motto
The Coalition for the National Museum of the American People on May 3 released an architectural vision of the proposed National Museum of the American People that depicts what could become a major new Washington landmark at the end of L’Enfant Plaza, overlooking the Maine Avenue waterfront and the Washington Channel of the Potomac River.
The design concept developed by MTFA Architecture provides a sense of what this major new museum could look like on one of the sites in Washington designated as a location for a future museum by three federal agencies -- the National Park Service, National Capital Planning Commission and U.S. Commission of Fine Arts. The final selection of an architect will be made by the Museum once it is created and the Museum will work with federal agencies and Congress to obtain the best possible site.
A stunning architectural design for NMAP at Washington, DC’s L’Enfant Plaza overlook site

A soaring entrance to the National Museum of the American People could contain significant artifacts and lead visitors into the permanent exhibition The Making of the American People. Design concept by MTFA Architecture.
At the south end of L’Enfant Plaza with your back to the National Mall, this is what a vision of the National Museum of the American People looks like at the Banneker Overlook site. Design concept by MTFA Architecture.

Congressman Supports Melting-Pot MuseumBy KATE TAYLOR
Representative James P. Moran, a Virginia Democrat who is concerned about the propagation of ethnic museums on the National Mall in Washington, sees a possible antidote: a National Museum of the American People, dedicated, in the words of a resolution Mr. Moran plans to introduce in the House, to celebrating all immigrants, “from the very first to the most recent.”
