17 Greater Kashmir SRINAGAR | June 05, 2014, Thursday National Mountain Running Challenge Tanveer wins maiden title Srinagar, June 4: Tanveer Hussain of JK Bank emerged victorious in the first Open National Mountain Running Challenge held at world famous tourist resort, Pahalgam, on Wednesday. As per a statement issued here, both men and women athletes from different States of India participated in the compe- tition while athletes from J&K pocketed five out of six medals. Tanveer Hussain from of J&K Bank bagged Gold medal while Imtiyaz Ahamad of J&K Police got silver and Hakeem Aqib won bronze medal in the men’s section. In women’s section, Farhana Bhat from J&K bagged gold, Shazia Ali from J&K won silver medal while Alfiya Mulani from Maharashtra pocketed the bronze medal. President J&K Mountain Running Association Muhammad Yousuf dis- tributed prizes among the winners. The event was organized by Indian Mountain Running Association. First ten position holders of the event were given merit certificates. Budgam Premier League Master-XI, Kings-XI win matches Budgam, June 4: In the ongoing Budgam Premier League T20 tournament two matches were played at Sheikh-ul-Aalam Sports Stadium here on Wednesday. In the first match, Master-XI Ompora defeated Sheik-ul- Aalam club by 56 runs. Batting first Master-XI scored 191 for the loss of six wickets in allotted overs. In reply Sheik-ul- Aalam Club were bundled out for 135 runs. Farooz Ahmad for his 61-run knock was adjudged as man of the match. In the second match, Kings-XI defeated Hanjora by eight wickets. Batting first Hanjora were bundled out for 134 runs. In reply Kings-XI achieved the required target for the loss of of two wickets. Yaseen scored 75 runs and was adjudged as man of the match. DYSS employees demand release of salary Srinagar, June 4: Employees of the District Youth Ser- vices and Sports (DYSS) Budgam unit today staged a protest demonstration here, urging the authorities to release their pending salaries forthwith. Protesting employees said their salaries for last three months have not been released “as disbursement powers of authorities of the concerned district have been ceased”. Several Physical Education teachers of the district Wednesday held protests at press enclave here demanding immediate redressal of their grievances. “If the powers of the District officer have been ceased following Court Orders, the DYSS higher ups should have made alternate arrangements in that regard. It has been three months since our salaries are withheld,” the protestors told Greater Kashmir. “We are dependent on our monthly salaries and are facing lots of problems due to nonpayment of three months’ salary. DYSS higher ups are least bothered and have done nothing in this regard from last three months,” they added.
