Chairman’s Report for NEC CMP 18  ______________________________________________ 

     1)  NEC Second Draft Meeting, San Diego, CA   

Scheduled: November 5‐7, 2015 Actual: November 5‐6, 2015  

 

2) List names of guests in attendance is attached.  

3) List names of guests addressing the Panel, the subject of their address, and the length of time they spoke:  a. Amy Cronin, spoke for 15 minutes in support of adding a definition and other 

actions regarding PCs related to a new quick release technology for receptacles attaching luminaires and ceiling fans. 

b. Michael Johnston spoke for 10 minutes in support of a PC revising the marking on automatically controlled receptacles. 

c. Keith Lofland spoke for 5 minutes explaining the scope and purpose of a CC‐appointed task group evaluating the benefits of a global change to add words related to listed and labeling. 

 4) Number of Public Comments acted upon:  63        5) Number of Second Revisions created:  28               6)  There were no Task Groups appointed to work subsequent to the Second Draft Meeting.

7)  There are no requests for that require NEC Correlating Committee attention.  

8)  There are no comments or SRs that should to be referred to another panel for information or correlation 

9)  There are no Comments or SRs that should be referred to the Toxicity Advisory Committee. 

10)  List all PCs or SRs  related to combustibles in plenums or other air handling spaces:                   SR 5124 addresses low voltage wiring in plenums and other spaces.

11)  There are no new issues or requests for the NFPA Research Foundation at this time.  

12)  The panel has no requests for information or assistance from the NEC Correlating Committee at this time.  

13)  Provide any additional information that you feel would be helpful to the NEC Correlating Committee, staff, or to the process in general:  CMP 18 was made aware that the CC had assigned a task group to review and recommend global actions related to adding the words “and labeled” wherever “listed” is used.  The panel took a straw poll to determine the opinion of the panel on this issue.  The informal vote was overwhelmingly in favor of the action, with only one negative opinion.  This information can be passed to the task group.  Additionally, CMP 18 recommends that if the direction from the task group is to make the global change, a change must be made to the definitions of both terms, including associated informational notes.
