Learning outcomes

After successfully completing this course, you will be able to• demonstrate a basic knowledge of the National Credit Act• identify when and how a consumer can apply for debt review

and whether a consumer is over-indebted• read and interpret credit bureau reports• demonstrate an understanding of reckless credit, and• restructure debt, draft a consent order, monitor consumer

payments, issue a Clearance Certificate and offer support services.

After successful completion, you will be competent in debt counselling and eligible to complete the examination and qualify to register with the NCR as a debt counsellor.

Who should enrol?

This course is ideal for you if you are a prospective debt counsellor looking to register with the NCR. To qualify for registration as a debt counsellor, you are required to attend a training programme approved by the NCR.

Course fees

R8 000.00 per delegate (VAT incl.)Course fees include all course material and refreshments.

Course fees must be paid in full 14 days prior to course start dates. Proof of payment can be submitted to [email protected].

Assessment

Delegates who pass the exam will receive a certificate of successful completion from the University of Pretoria and the NCR.

Admission requirements

Prospective delegates must be older than 18 and should at least have a National Senior Certificate (Grade 12) or equivalent NQF Level 4 qualification. A minimum requirement of two years’ working experience in any of the following fields are also recommended:• Legal or para-legal services• Educating or training of individuals• Counselling of individuals• General business environment

Delegates should also display the ability to provide counselling or transfer skills, and demonstrate an ability to manage his or her own finances.

Please take note that you may NOT register as a debt counsellor if you are/have been:

• Listed on the register of excluded persons in terms of Section 14 of the National Gambling Act of 2004.

• Removed from an office of trust on account of misconduct.• A director or member of a governing body or entity that has

been involuntarily deregistered or brought the consumer credit industry into disrepute.

• Convicted during the previous ten years of theft, fraud, forgery, perjury or any offence under the Prevention and Combating of Corrupt Activities Act of 2004 or comparable legislation.

• Convicted of a crime involving violence or an offence where the sentence was imprisonment without the option of a fine.

• Subject to an administration order in terms of Section 74 of the Magistrate’s Court Act.

• Engaged in, employed by or acting as an agent for a person who is engaged in debt collection, operation of a credit bureau or credit provision.

As a public higher education institution, the University of Pretoria functions in accordance with the Higher Education Act 101 of 1997. Enterprises University of Pretoria offers short courses on behalf of the University and these short courses are not credit-bearing, and do not lead to formal qualifications on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) – unless stated otherwise. Delegates who successfully complete a short course and comply with the related assessment criteria (where applicable) are awarded certificates of successful completion and/or attendance by the University of Pretoria.
