As a member of World Fair Trade Organization (WFTO) and Community Fair Trade Partner of The Body Shop International, it is a matter of great pride to be awarded with National Business Excellence Award. All the producers of Get Paper and the team members of General Welfare Pratisthan are proud of this recognition. It has becomes possible to get this honor due to hard work of everyone involved in business and community development. All of us from GPI and GWP cherish this moment!!!! Visit from Mr. David Smith- International Director, The Body Shop International Mr. David Smith- International Director, The Body Shop International visited us on 6 th May, 2013 along with Mr. Mark Davis- Director, Community Fair Trade and Mr. Lee Mann, Senior Buyer, Community Fair Trade, The Body Shop International. Mr. Smith visited our production facilities and happily met with our producer’s committees. He also visited Anita Milan Academy and observed the dance of our children. Mr. Smith distributed scholarships to girls and School Bags to all 360 children of Pancha Kanya School. The bag carries message about our campaign “Send Your Daughter to School”. His visit is very encouraging for us as Community Fair Trade Partners of The Body Shop and we express our sincere thanks for his time. Binu Bista, Courageous Girl Who is FightingAgainst TraffickingOut of more than 1000 girls in 60 girls groups, who are fighting against girls trafficking, Binu Bistais another outstanding girl. She is group facilitator of Monalisa Kishoree Samuha at HandikholaVillage District Committee, Makwanpur, and Ward No. 1.She is actively engaged in making girlsand community aware of threat of girls trafficking despite her family hardship. Her father is diabeticand has leg amputated, her mother is chronic heart patient. Her brother left the family in difficultcircumstances. Binu did not give up, but started chicken farming with the support from GeneralWelfare Pratisthan of Rs. 15,000. She is not only managing her family with the income but alsosending her younger sister Sanu Bista for high school education. It is fascinating to meet her andto get inspired to see her work for the community despite all personal hardship. We at GPI/GWPsalute her for her dedication and courage.

GPI organize the plantation program on 15th August 2013 as a part of our annual plantation program.Sixteen hundred trees were planted this year with active participation from our producers and thelocal community members. More than 200 people cheerfully participated the program. As we haveconsumed around 94 tons of paper from July 2012 to July 2013, we have planted 1600 trees basedon an assumption that to produce one ton of paper 17 trees are required.

The Visitors at GPIThirteen visitors from the United Kingdom visited us on 1st October. The visit was arranged byTraidcraft Meet the People program, which covers fair trade tours. All our producers are veryhappy to welcome them. They were very enthusiastic to know about our operation as fair tradeorganization. The group observed our production processes including handmade paper, screenprint, product making and other operations. They also enjoyed meeting our producers.

Serrv International USA, Supports Our Girls Scholorship Program!!!SERRV International has provided US $ 2700 for our girl’s scholarship program. It is a greatsupport to our program as we can cover 27 more girls this year with this fund. We believe girleducation will bring substantial changes in our society. On behalf of marginalized girls, whowill get the light of education with this support, we extend our sincere thanks to SERRVInternational for this generous support.

A cafe rising the voice against traficking!!GWP/GPI is very excited to share that Highway Hamro Sister Café is now open. The project iscarried out with following objectives

To make people aware about problem of traffickingTo create income opportunities for girls by employing, so that they will not be trafficked

due to financial factors.To make girls groups strong to disseminate message against traffickingTo create income for the girls group with successful operation of the cafe.

The project is supported by SERRV International, Roddick Foundation and resources of GWP/GPI.It was declared opened by Jessie Macneil-Brown, Global Campaigns Manager - The Body ShopInternational, on 9 May, 2013.With so many outcomes from the café you not only enjoy the deliciousfood, but at the same time you would be raising the voice against the trafficking of the girls.

Mr. Mark Woolley – Director of Paper High, provided scholarship to the students of Anita MilanInternational School (AMIS). AMIS is opened to provide education to marginalized group ofchildren, basically focused on girl’s education. Susma BK – Class: LKG, Sabitri Rai – Class: UKG,Sharmila Ghimire – Class: Nursery, Mandira Tamang – Class: 2, Manita Tamang – Class: 2 arethe brilliant students who got the scholarship. They are from marginalized family background.

Couple Producers Won The Design CompetitionMr. David Smith, International Director of The Body Shop declared open the design competitionof this season at Get Paper. We are grateful that Mr. Smith- International Director of The BodyShop, Mr. Mark Davis- Director Community Fair Trade and Mr. Lee Mann- Senior Buyer, The BodyShop agreed to judge the products designed by our producers. More than sixty products weredesigned by our producers.

We run the design competition two times in a year to bring forward the talents of our producers.It is more exciting this year as first and second prize were won by couple producers. Mrs. DeukiKhadka got the first prize whereas her husband Kuldev Khadka bagged the second prize. It isequally interesting that third prize was won by Sanu Shrestha, a seasonal producer. They receivedtheir prizes from our guests. We congratulate on their success!!!
