W Welcome & Thanks

If you are attending your first convention, you will find that this event is one–of–a–kind. It is a place where you can share both your challenges and triumphs with other dads who “get it.” For those returning, it is an event to re–unite with old friends and pass along tips and encouragement. Most of all, it is an event where your opinion is valued and your experiences (good or bad) are respected. Please participate fully, so that you can return home a better father and energized for the life we know. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to communicate with us or any of the other Denver Dads. These dads have been instrumental in making this weekend a success along with the rest of the Convention Planning Committee. Thank you for supporting this wonderful event! Sarah Tilton Child Passenger Safety Advocacy Manager, Britax Just when you thought parenting was becoming easier, your

child outgrows her first car seat. Déjà vu sets in – all of the unknowns of parenting come back to haunt you. Too bad a baby registry doesn’t work for each milestone. Take a deep breath. It’s not so bad. There are many resources available to guide you each step of this wonderful, occasionally stressful, journey, we call Parenthood. Sarah Tilton, Britax Child Passenger Safety Advocacy Manager, is here with us to break down how to keep your child safe in and around a vehicle from Birth-to-Seat Belt. Sarah will be covering topics as broad as “What is the BEST car seat?” (trick question, not brand related) to “Why does my state have a child restraint law that differs from what the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends?” This session is for expecting, new and experienced parents of children ages 0-16.

Topics Sarah will cover include:

- Child Passenger Safety - Heatstroke Awareness and Prevention - Front overs and Back overs Prevention - Getting Ready to Drive

Ballroom Money and the Family

Families need to care for children and family’s need money. Both take time. When juggling these responsibilities there are many different solutions – and many different challenges. All families benefit from creating a better understanding of where they are and where they want to go next. Jessica DeGroot, president and founder of ThirdPath Institute, is passionately committed to helping mothers and fathers create integrated lives where they have time for work, love and play! ThirdPath provides coaching, training and workbooks around work-family and work-life integration. Join us for an honest and thought provoking discussion. @ThirdPathInst

Culinary Demo 208 Literacy Begins at Home

Come sing, talk, play, read, and write with Sarah McNeil from the Denver Public Library! Participants will learn how basic early development is boosted by these simple activities and have a chance to practice new activities as well as share their favorites. @denverlibrary

Tourism Lab 214 Emergency Preparedness

Preparing children and even preparing a home with pets is not complete common sense, but isn’t difficult if provided with the information and/or tools to prepare. Brandon Robbins currently teaches Homeland Security and Emergency Management at Indiana University. @branrobbins

Events Lab 200 Faith and Parenting

We will be looking at the question, how do we raise children to have faith? Rev. Dr. Bill Ekhardt is an ordained Presbyterian pastor who stayed at home with his four kids for 8 years. We will open with a conversation about what it is we are trying to accomplish as we impart faith to our kids. Bill will share some guiding thoughts on faith development and the role of the family in imparting faith. Then we will open up for dads to share with one another the practices they have found to be effective. @BillEkhardt

Ballroom Cross Fit for Kids

CrossFit Kids workouts consist of constantly varied, functional movements that deliver a fitness that is broad, inclusion and general (B.I.G.) and are scalable for any participant at any level. What this means is that each child experiences challenge and reward every workout, basing success on effort rather than comparison. Kids are training for life, rather than a small, sport-specific, skill set.

Culinary Demo 208 Online Safety

Tech expert and single dad Dave Taylor will share his experiences and thoughts about online safety, privacy, social media and the NSA. Among other things. And then we’ll talk. Bring your questions, your fears, your amusing anecdotes, your knowledge of that messed up dude from down the street, and we’ll see if we can figure out how to keep our kids safe together.

Tourism Lab 214 Photography Tips and Tricks

An intro 101 to taking better pictures of your kids. Topics include getting better exposures, good composition techniques, posing practices for family & group shots, and avoiding blurry pictures. We will also discuss kid centered photography, a Q&A with working dad photographers and some practice time at the end of the session.

Events Lab 200 Is Home Schooling for you?

With most resources for homeschooling targeting mothers, this will be a chance for dads to share their personal experiences and network with other like-minded fathers. We will discuss the legal challenges to homeschooling, how to get started, how to choose a homeschooling methodology and/or curriculum, and how to socialize your children outside a traditional school environment.

Ballroom Marriage

Join in an open, non-judgmental discussion about the relationship with your partner.

Culinary Demo 208 Starting a Blog: Resist Overthinking and Jump In

Now that dad blogging has reached a more prominent stage, and the image of a modern dad is starting to shift perceptions of fatherhood, it’s easy to think that you’ve missed the boat. And that’s nonsense. Studies shows that new dads (and/or new writers) are the most ardent members of our community, and least likely to conform to the stereotypes that are so quickly fading away. If you’re considering starting a blog about your life as a SAHD, even if you have no commercial aspirations whatsoever, it’s never too late to add your voice to the chorus. @Dad2Summit @MrDougFrench

Tourism Lab 214 Mindfulness: Building Inner Resilience

The aim of this workshop is to equip parents with the necessary skills to build back their inner strength and resilience, and to model this way of being for the children in their care through mindfulness practices. @StephanieJelly

Events Lab 200 Starting and Growing a Dads Group

Dads benefit from opportunities to socialize and support each other. Learn the steps you need to take to create a vibrant, growing dads group from the leaders of City Dads Group, Matt Schneider and Lance Somerfeld. They grew their NYC Dads Group from 2 to over 800 and then, earlier this year, launched City Dads Group to help start and grow dads groups in Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Denver, Los Angeles, San Francisco and other major cities. Find out how you can follow their successes and avoid their mistakes to make your dads group grow. @CityDadsGroup
