Her father introduced her to target shooting when she was 11 years old and trained really hard since then. Tanya turned out to be a great shot and because of her ability to hit the bull’s eye, she started en- tering competitions. In no time she had taken home a series of medals and trophies. She had asked her father once that why could she not go out and play like other children hav- ing to practice everyday, after school from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.†in the weekends.

While most girls her age spend their time painting their nails, shopping or joining cheer leading squads, Tanyaporn Prucksakorn has opted for a sport that is a little different, playing with a loaded pistol. The unusual choice of sport came from her father Chai. She had learned many sports such as Judo, basketball, swim-ming and boxing but it seems that she has no interest in those sports.

Her father introduced her to target shooting when she was 11 years old and trained really hard since then. Tanya turned out to be a great shot and because of her ability to hit the bull’s eye, she started en-tering competitions.

In no time she had taken home a series of medals and trophies. She had asked her father once that why could she not go out and play like other children hav-ing to practice everyday, after school from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.†in the weekends.

Her father gave Tanya one week break, within 3 days she got bored doing nothing. She thought it was a waste so at last she came back to practice again. When she was 13 years old, Tanya did not take long to establish herself as one of the few promising pistol shooters in the country.†She made it to the national team, coached by Australia’s Paul McCormack and helped carry the Thai flag in many overseas games. Most athletes do not have much to brag about academically, but not Tanya, now a 1st year collegian at the Chulalongkorn University. Her grade point average, which is above 3.00, clearly sug-gests that she can manage her time adequately, dealing with school and the shooting range.†However, her abili-ties until now is still in the first rank of the women’s target shooting sport.
