Duties of Chief Data Officers

The CDO is responsible for A. Enterprise-wide governance and control on informationB. Utilization of information as an asset:

Governance & control:• Cataloging and organizing information assets• Developing a strategy for information — particularly new kinds of

information• Creating standards (including "master data" management)• Reducing data duplication and waste across the enterprise• Sourcing needed data from outside the enterprise

Utilization:• Creating a commercial policy regarding data use and security need• Finding new value in existing data assets (analytics)• Monetizing information — for example, by selling it as a service
