What are narwhals?
Narwhals are whales with horns! Underwater unicorns! The inventor of the shish-kabob! The Jedi of the sea!

What do they look like?
• Narwhals can grow to be about 16 feet long.
• They weigh about 1.8 tons.
• They have blotchy grey and white skin.

THE TOOTH!
• Narwhals have two front teeth. In the middle of an adult narwhal’s life, the left tooth grows outward in a spiral.
• It is thought to be used for courtship, obtaining food, or
amplifying sonar pulses.

Where do they live?
• Narwhals live in the icy Arctic seas. They rarely leave the icy regions. In summer, they may stray into bays or estuaries.

A Narwhal’s Life!
• Narwhals live for about 50 years.
• They travel in groups of 4 to 20 individuals.
• There are about 45,000 narwhals in the world today.
