Flashbacks

I used flashbacks to at first confuse the audience by showing them the male character receiving a text message with a picture of his deceased ex-wife with the person she was cheating on him with.

After providing the audience with this story, I then allowed them to see what had happened in the past, which then meant that the audience understood the storyline.

The impact of this on the audience is, it gives them the full ‘picture’ of what the characters’ have been through, longer periods of time shown for example, half of the film is in one year and the other half is of a year previous to that. This means that audience have more information to interpret the film and understand it in a way that makes sense to them.

Voice-Overs

During interviews with experts, for example, Ben Pipes. I used intercuts of him playing volleyball for his LeAF BU team. During these intercuts, I use the interview with him as a voice-over.

The use of voice-overs are to provide the audience with ‘background’ information on each expert or to provide footage that is relevant to what is being said in the interview. Such as during the interview with Ms Blanshard where she is discussing the LeAF Elite Athlete Academy and also the LeAF Stage and Screen school and relevant footage is playing.

The impact of this on the audience is they are able to watch a balance of interview and footage and are able to link what is being said by visuals.
