Two narratives are shown through this
video.
Narrative 1 Narrative 2
Amy Lee portrays the life of a model who promotesproducts by a company called "Lies". The music videofocuses on the struggles that Lee's character suffers withbecause of her modeling career and her opposite lifestyle.
During the bridge, two girls are seen laughing at themodel's appearance, stating that she looks much older
She is modeling for the food
industry, a company called LIES
by using a pizza, a fizzy drink, . The
company name reflects her life, and
how her career is based on lies.
As soon as the camera is turned off
it shows the reality of her life, she
is not the typical model, low key
lighting is used, low key colours all
reflect her life & mood. Walking
down the hallwa .
Photographer swarming around her
in photo-shoot, looks glamorous,
ideal woman & model, high key
lighting, rich & classy
Is in an elevator with two blonde
stereotypical ideal girls tauntinghow she actually looks, the rules
have flipped, in reality she should be
the perfect ideal girl as she is a model
but is seen as an outcast in
comparison to the other girls.
Two different adverts, 1stshe is on
a bike promoting a fizzy drink called
LIES 2nd - selling herself a doll
version of her with pink hair, quite
Japanese style. This relates to how
she is selling herself out.
Back in her room reflecting on her
day and her life, looking at billboard
and magazines with her face
plastered all over, she knows she
isnt really like that but she cant helpit anymore, the two lives she leads
are merging.

than they thought she was. Another segment shows herbreaking a mirror with her bare hand, which starts to bleeduncontrollably. In the final scene, she stands on thebalcony of a building, crying and screaming at a billboardfeaturing one of her advertisements, saying that the modelside of her isn't "real and you can't save me", and thateverybody is oblivious to how she really lives ("you knowyou've got everybody fooled").(Wikipedia)
Theories
These theories are evidenced throughout this music video.
Levi Strauss There are a few binary opposites found inthis video such as Fantasy VS reality, Popular VSoutcast, Truth VS lies, Light VS dark
Barthes Enigmas & resolutions. Enigma Why does shehate her job? ResolutionShe is promoting lies.
Having looked at all of the evidence there are manyreasons why this music video has the narrativeconstructed this way. The reason for this is to show thetwo different lives that Amy Lees character leads, spinning a web of lies and how the two have merged in
her reality.
SummaryThis music video has shown us that an alternativenarrative can be used and still be easy to follow although itdoes not create verisimilitude. This is an option for us touse on our music video which will make it different to othergroups music videos.
