1. PROJECT OVERVIEW AND INSTITUTIONAL ARRANGEMENTS The 22 MW installed capacity Mai Hydropower Project (MHP) is a run-of-river project located in Chisapani, Danabariand and Soyak Village Development Committees (VDCs) of Ilam district and utilizes the water from Mai Khola. The project comprises diversion weir with undersluice, intake arrangements followed by inlet canal, settling basin, headrace culvert, headrace tunnel, surge-shaft followed by penstock pipe and powerhouse followed by tailrace canal. The generated power is evacuated through 132 kV transmission lines of 10.6 km and connected with the Integrated Nepal Power System (INPS) at Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA)’s proposed Godak substation in Ilam district. The project’s headworks site can be reached from East-West Highway at Birtamode of Jhapa district via a 25 km road of which 9 km is black topped and rest is earthen/gravel type. A project road of 5 km length has been constructed to connect the headworks with the powerhouse.

2. KEY DATES PPA signed on 8th Baishakh 2067 (21st April 2010),

Generation License obtained on 13thBhadra 2067 (29th Aug 2010) (valid till 28th Aug 2045),

Main Civil Construction Contract awarded to Himal Hydro and General Construction Limited on 3rdOctober 2010 with a target completion date of 18thMay 2014 (Required Commercial Operation Date as per PPA is ~14thJuly 2014, i.e. end Ashad 2071),

Facility Agreement (Financial Closing) signed on 18th November 2010 (2ndMangsir 2067).

Up-gradation of project capacity to 22 MW on 6th July 2012 (22ndAsar 2069).

6.1.5 APPROACH CULVERT, SETTLING BASIN AND FLUSHING CULVERT

• Earthwork Excavation/Backfilling works in settling basin panel-03, panel -02 and panel-01 is ongoing.

• Settling basin base slab concreting up to wall kicker level has been completed on panel 09, 08, 06, 05 and 04 being panel 04 done on this month.

• Base slab concreting on panel 07 is ongoing. • Intermediate flushing pipe provision made on panel 04 and 07.

• Invert lining has been completed (2197m, i.e. 99.5%) ( From Ch 0+000 to 2+197) • Wall and crown lining using steel and wooden formwork, 456m out 1356m, i.e. 34% is

completed . • 90m long concrete wall of height 2.05m (spring level) has been completed using wooden

forms. • Similarly 844m of 1 meter concreting has been completed till date. • 1 meter lining has been done at all niches. • Ladder installation and roof truss installations are completed surge shaft.

Key works executed:

• Transportation, placing & tagging of 100m long penstock pipe at upstream of AB04 has been completed along with one bend and expansion joint, work is undergoing at bend and expansion joint.

8. ELECTROMECHANICAL PROGRESS

• EM work 20% completed • Crane rail fixing completed at tailrace side. • Rail bolt fixing completed at all bays, grouting is undergoing.



9. POWER EVACUATION LINE • The contractor Aster Tele Service Nepal Pvt. Ltd. was mobilized at site & started the work

from excavation of foundation trench.

• Site was closed form 19th of Ashoj to 2nd of Kartik for Dasain Holiday and resumed from 3rd of Kartik 2070(about 2 weeks working days before Tihar)

• HH, the civil contractor will continue with work during Tihar beside festival days in Headworks and tunnel part.

• Good progress observed at Tunnel site. 1 meter lining is completed. Full lining is 34% completed. 4 set of formworks have arrived at site. Three set of formworks have been used inside the Tunnel.

• 45% foundation work has been completed for project transmission line from Muse to Godak. • Good progress at Headworks settling basin slope slab, backfilling and stone masonry

ongoing at settling basin area. • Corbel concrete completed at all bay. • Mai cascade and NEA transmission line are in critical stage for timely commissioning of

project. • Abutment for river crossing at muse, PH is under construction. • Moderate rain is observed during evening time for 2/3 days. • Minor flood during Dashain time has been observed.
