b1335 Nanopharmaceutics: The Potential Application of Nanomaterials
Preface
Considerable advances of basic and application researches have taken place in the field of pharmaceutics in last decade. The newly recognized research thrust on nanomedicine is expected to have a revolutionary impact on the human health. In 21st century, we see the coming of the Nano-Age, how it can save the life of a human being is still a challenge to the world. The tremendous research on biomedical applications of nano-materials has been advancing rapidly, particularly in the development of unique nanostructures for nanomedicine. Most of the advances have occurred in nanodiagnostics and nanopharmaceuticals, particularly drug delivery using nanobiotechnology as well as monitor biocompatibility and toxicity of nanomaterials for clinical use.
This book focuses on significant aspects of nanomaterials for phar-maceutical applications based on the new development for cancer treat-ment, imaging diagnosis, formulation of new drug and biomolecules for therapeutic applications. Some of the novel strategies introduced in the book aim to provide multi-functionality for a wide variety of approaches to combine all together in one platform to further design effective nano-structures for pharmaceutical applications.
The book is composed of 20 chapters that address the specific nano-platforms used for delivery, imaging, therapy and toxicity of nanomateri-als for pharmaceutical applications. Some of the chapters focus on the formulation of drug and biomolecules for delivery and gene silencing, protein nanostructure and nano-scaled proteomic analysis for cancer treatment. There is also a mention about the formulation of hydropho-bic/hydrophilic drug such as cisplatin and their use for cancer treatment. There are chapters on the metal and polymeric based nanomaterials and contrast agents for imaging tumors. It significantly describes the interac-tion of nanomaterials with cells and immune system and their significant role to design effective drug delivery system. This book also focuses on biological activity of nanomaterials for clinical application such as ortho-pedic implants’ improvement with nanotechnology, and addresses the toxicity of nanomaterials for human and environmental concern.
