Altrusa International of Montrose presents the FirstAnnual Kidson Wheels Bike Challenge

The goal ofour Environmental Committee this year was to create an educationalprogram to increase bike riding to reduce carbon emissions and improve fitness byestablishing bike riding as a lifelong habit, beginning with localmiddle schoolstudents. Our hope at targeting this age group was to encourage students as they enterinto driving age, that they will continue to realize the importance ofbike riding for itshealth benefits and environmental impact.

Our Challenge started offwith a bike safety rally being held at a local sporting goodsstore. Weofferedbikemaintenance, bike licensing and bike safety clinics with the helpof a local chapter ofKiwanis and the local CityPoliceDepartment. When the studentsfinished all three phases of the rally, they were awarded with a gift bag that contained
