Vol. 1 No. 2 “What’s Up” and Upcoming from Nancy Cartwright She has a voice, we know that. It’s the voice of Sparkles, the Wonder Horse, also of 10- year-old Bart, the Simpson brat. It’s “the greatest cartoon voice of the 20th Century.” Well, one of them. But can she act? Nancy Cartwright can act, as we see here. Not just with her voice; with her eyes, her mobile face, her entire body and being. When, at an early age, she saw Federico Fellini’s Nancy Cartwright travels ‘In Search of Fellini’ now at Theatre Geo classic film La Strada, Nancy was fired with ambition and desire to meet the master, thus to achieve her transcendent breakthrough to true creative expression. Young and dauntless, maybe a little foolish, Nancy sets off on a journey to meet Fellini, to convince him to give her the stage rights to La Strada. Only someone with a lot of self-confidence (and a bit of naivete) would set off alone and unaided, possessing only a smattering of the language on such a journey to a foreign land. But then, what shrinking violet gets up on stage to portray herself and… some 14 other characters, in intimate revelation of her life and psyche? With script by Peter Kjenaas, sentiently directed by Leslie Welles (who co-developed the piece with Cartwright), Fellini is cleverly and creatively staged… the lighting manages to suggest the scent and hue of Chianti wine… a velvety grape-colored pantsuit—is just right for the purpose… original music, scenic paintings...and choreographed segments...all are enhancements. It plays like a joyous collaboration of talented friends. The search for Fellini—who, after all, “is just a man”—is a journey well taken. We find that in the search is the substance, in the quest is the answer to the question. Critic’s Choice Polly Warfield “FELLINI” IS A HIT!!!
