Opening on October 27th at Theatre Geo will be the World premiere of my one- woman show “In Search of Fellini”. Directed by Leslie Welles (Founder and Artistic Director of Artists Without Nets), it is a “tough comic journey” that chronicles a fre- quently absurd adventure of the spirit, mind and (espe- cially in Italy) body. Thanks to all the casting directors who participated in my survey! Fortunately, most of you said that you enjoyed newsletters and felt they were valuable. For those of you who don’t enjoy newsletters: EDITOR FROM THE *meaning: for now; for the time being I AM NOT A 10 YEAR OLD BOY! he first thing you’ll notice about me is that I don’t look a bit like Bart Simpson! Although many people know me as ”the most popular 10-year old boy on the planet”, the truth is, I established my career on-camera with a co- starring role in “Twilight Zone, the Movie”. I was also considered for an Emmy, playing the lead role in the film “Marian Rose White” with co-stars Valerie Perrine, as my evil mother, and Katherine Ross, as the kind nurse who tried to save me It all started back in 1980. I was working at the Gene Dynarski Theater playing a 13 year old girl in “The Transgres- sor”. An agent saw my performance and snatched me right up for representation. Next thing I knew I had my very first audi- tion and… wouldn’t you know it… I was signed onto a develop- ment deal first time “out of the shoot!” Although the pilot was never picked up, I continued to balance my on-camera career with my already established voice-over career. I have made so many guest appearances that the list would take up the rest of this newsletter! A few of my favorite directors I have worked with include Paul Verhoeven (“Flesh and Blood”); James Burrows ( “Cheers”); Randa Haines (“Tucker’s Witch”); Stan Daniels (“On Hollywood Blvd.”); and, of course, Jim Brooks. T MERYL AND ME One of the perks in being in- volved with “The Simpsons” is that I get to work with a number of legendary celebri- ties who guest-star because they’re fans of the show. Michael Jackson, Sting, and Michelle Pheiffer are a few I’ve had the great pleasure to work with. One particularly memorable experience was last season when I had the priviledge of working with Meryl Streep! A lot of times our guests aren’t available to work with us at our regularly scheduled recording sessions because of their own schedules. Such was the case with Meryl. So, lucky me, I got to have a private ses- sion with this consummate artist! When she first arrived, she was introduced to everyone: “And this is So-and-So and this is Blah-di-blah, oh and this is Nancy Cartwright, the voice of Bart.” At that mo- ment, Meryl took a gasp of air, and sounding like a ten- year-old and wiggling her fingers in a “hello-fashion” she squeaked, “Hi!” Everyone laughed and it broke the ice a bit so we could get started. The purpose of this newsletter is to update you on upcoming projects, events, auditions, call- backs, who I’ve worked with and what they were wearing, and to keep any information about dogs and flea-baths out of it! For the nonce.* THIS IS A GIANT POSTCARD! The winners of the Casting Director Survey Raffle were: Thomas Schumacher, Lisa London, Meg Liberman and Tony Sheperd. Way to go, guys!!! As much as I was anticipating this ses-sion with Meryl, I had no idea how muchI would learn from her! She was abso-lutely amazing!!! This was a “whole newdeal” for Meryl, not ever having donevoice-overs before. A parent of 4 chil-dren, none of them had seen her work inany of the films she had done, but whenthey found out she was going to be on“The Simpsons”, the pressure was on!!!She really wanted to do a good job! We started recording and she was areal trooper! We did our typical 5-6 takeson each scene, each time adjusting thereading a bit to give the producers an ar-ray of choices. After the 6th shot, Merylscrunched up her nose a bit and looked atour director and Exec. Producer, DavidMirkin, she said, Could I do it one moretime? I have another idea.” Of course thiswas not problem, so we did it again. Then after the 7th take, she wouldscrunch up her nose a bit and again toMr. Mirkin she would question, “I haveanother idea… could I…?” Withoutmissing a beat, we were rolling again.Well, after the 8th time through, Icouldn’t believe it! She wanted to doit one more time!” I’m thinking, “Whatcould she possibly do that she hasn’talready done before?!” And darn if shedidn’t pull off yet another totally differ-ent take! NO WONDER SHE’S MERYLSTREEP!
