Nancy M. Fishman Society The Nancy M. Fishman Society honors donors who share the vision and enduring philanthropic spirit of Forgotten Harvest’s founder, Dr. Nancy Fishman. The Fishman Society recognizes donors with cumulative contributions of $100,000 or more.

This Year’s StoryForgotten Harvest recorded another historic year rescuing 48.8 million pounds of food that may have otherwise gone to waste in area landfills.

We are Metro Detroit’s only food rescue organization delivering fresh, healthy food free of charge to over 280 agencies in Wayne, Oakland and Macomb Counties.

The 2013-2014 fiscal year saw a transition in the leadership of our organization. After 13 years of outstanding service, Susan Goodell resigned and accepted a position as CEO of the Global Fund for Children in Washington D.C. She left a remarkable legacy for our organization and our community.

We owe a tremendous thanks to Bill Bernstein, who served the organization on a pro-bono basis for the past four years as a consultant, advising the Board and leadership on strategic issues and planning for the organization. Bill graciously agreed to serve as interim CEO for the organization while the search for a new CEO was conducted. Kirk Mayes was recruited to lead our organization in August 2014.

Despite an improving economy and the remarkable economic transformation taking place in our region, the need for food in Metro Detroit shows no sign of diminishing.

Our job is far from done. The management team and our dedicated sta remain committed to driving hunger from Metro Detroit and are humbled by the continued outpouring of support from the community this past year that enabled us to provide good food to the tables of those in need.

Gratefully,

David Nicholson Chairman | Board of Directors

2013 – 2014 FORGOTTEN HARVEST ANNUAL REPORT

Nearly one in five of our Metro Detroit neighbors potentially face hunger or lack food.

Our job is far from done!

THE FACES OF THOSE WE SERVE

ANOTHER RECORD YEAR!

48.8 Million Pounds of Healthy Food Rescued! Our country wastes 70 billion pounds of food annually. Every pound of rescued food means one more meal for our neighbors in need. Forgotten Harvest is Metro Detroit’s only food rescue organization. We rescue fresh, healthy surplus food that may not have been marketable due to appearance, grade size, surplus or other conditions. Food rescue is the solution to hunger in our country and our community.

Forgotten Harvest FarmsWe are not an organization afraid to try what others think can’t be done. In our first year of operation at Forgotten Harvest Farms, we grew and harvested over 880,000 pounds of fresh, healthy produce. Over $400,000 in equipment was donated by Ram Truck, Case IH and New Holland which facilitated the generation of increased efficiencies in our planting and harvesting process.

2013 – 2014 FORGOTTEN HARVEST ANNUAL REPORT

Over 16,000 volunteers dedicated 98,000 hours of service to Forgotten Harvest during the 2013-2014 fiscal year. Our Rescue Team volunteers serve as the backbone of Forgotten Harvest. Without their help, we could not possibly process the volume of food our community requires in a timely basis or operate Forgotten Harvest Farms. Forgotten Harvest was honored to receive the prestigious Governor’s Service Award for the Outstanding Volunteer Program in 2014.

Our Community is Engaged with Our Mission
