Section A
Part 1 (10 marks, 2 marks each)
Jason is reading some information on recycling on the Internet. Read the information and answer the questions in complete sentences.
Buying Recycled Products
Buying recycled goods helps support recycling. It is important that we buy recycled products wherever possible. This helps complete the recycling cycle. If only a few people buy things that are made from recycled materials, there would be no one collecting and making things with old materials.
Many shops and supermarkets now sell goods that contain recycled materials, for example, rubbish bags, jewellery, writing paper and toilet paper. Look for these when you go shopping next time.
1. Why is it important that people buy recycled products?
___________________________________________________________
2. Would old materials be collected if people do not buy recycled products?
___________________________________________________________
3. Where can people buy goods that contain recycled materials?
___________________________________________________________
4. Name two products that may contain recycled materials.
___________________________________________________________
5. What is the main idea of the passage?

Dear Jason,
Annniong! (Hello!) It was such a nice surprise to receive a Chinese New Year’s card from you yesterday. It is really interesting to know we both use the same lunar calendar to celebrate our new year. Let me tell you more about the Korean culture.
The official language in Korea is Korean and the writing system is called Hangul. Before Hangul was invented, Koreans used Chinese characters to write for a hundred years. Our traditional costume is called hanbok and it is still worn during special occasions. Same as Chinese, Koreans eat rice in our daily meals. My family always have fish, seafood and pickled vegetables in our meals.
Have a wonderful New Year holiday!
Yours,Ji Young
