Your Mission… Today we will become

radiologists and examine several x-rays to determine which bone we are looking at.

You will be given clues about their function and then asked to write down what bone you think it is.

Why are bones important? There are 206 bones in the average

human skeleton. Together these bones makeup what we call the Skeletal System.

The skeletal system provides form and shape for our bodies.

Together our bones protect vital organs that we need survive.

1. This bone… Protects the brain, eyes,

ears, and nose. Connected to the top of

the spine.

Page 5: Name That Bone!

2. This bone… 33 linked bones

(vertebrate) that get larger as they go down.

Separated by disks of cartilage that act as shock absorbers.

Helps to keep you upright.

3. This bone… 12 pairs of ribs; two

pairs are "floating.“ Back links to vertebrae. Front links to sternum. Protects heart, lungs,

and other internal organs.

4. This bone… Made of 5 fused

vertebrae and hip bones.

Protects the organs used for digesting and reproduction.

5. This bone… Includes three different

types: carpals, metacarpals, phalanges.

Made up of 27 bones. Connected to the lower

part of your arm. What part of the body is

Made up of 26 bones.

Most utilized part of the body.
