2.1A Reading activity: Computerspiele
Lesen Sie den Text. (Read the text, look up any words you don’t know and write the English above the word)

Schreiben, also zur Datenverarbeitung.

A level German Bridging Work – Independent study (also part of Summer work)
It is great that you have chosen German to study at A level and look forward to working with you from
September onwards. You have a few weeks in which you can really start preparing for the challenges of next
year so we will be setting you some tasks over the next few weeks but we also wanted to share with you
some ideas for you to complete independently as language learning is about doing something on a regular
basis, not forgetting everything and enjoying using German. Keep a log of all the things you have done using
the independent learning log and you can share this in September.
Here are some possibilities. Try to use German in as many different ways as possible, i.e texts, listening,
films, websites, speaking etc:
➢ One enjoyable way is to watch a German film (or films) – YouTube should be a good start. ‘Lola rennt’ is a good one, ‘Good bye Lenin’ or ‘Das Leben der Anderen’ you will study in class, or look at the film list of AQA and choose a film from their choice;
➢ Look at the websites listed below and have a dip into some of them, get to know them and how they work so that you know what could be useful in future;
➢ Look at the vocabulary on opinions – which ones do you already know (quite a few, I imagine) and which ones could be useful. Try to memorise new ones to have a head start in September;
➢ Look into some newspapers or magazines and read some (short) paragraphs and try to get the meaning of them (note any vocab you looked up in a little booklet);
➢ Try to speak some German if you can, either to somebody else (most enjoyable), or to yourself (less enjoyable perhaps but still better than nothing);
➢ Revise vocab if you can, keep the GCSE vocab up to date, and have a look at the vocab attached for the first two topics we will be covering in September.
Online resources
https://www.duolingo.com/
Duolingo is an excellent interactive App which will quickly assess your level of German and choose interactive
activities to practice a variety of different topic areas and grammar at the right level for you. 10-15 minutes a
day either on a phone, tablet or PC will quickly improve the level of your German.

Vocab Learning
One of the first topics you will be doing is “Familie im Wandel” (the change nature of families in Germany). Here
are 3 quizlet sets which include lots of useful vocabulary which will appear in lessons and homework activities in
your first term of studying German. Find them on quizlet https://quizlet.com/en-gb (search for the title of each
set) and learn them in blocks of 10-15 in quizlet (star the ones in quizlet you want to learn in each session).
Alternatively, learn them in a different way that words for you.
