IWBAT write a counterargument. Do Now: 1) Handout2) Silently get your laptop and loginArgument and CounterargumentArgumentReason and evidence to support your position in a debate. CounterargumentDisproving or weakening an argument that supports your opponents position. Position: Cell phones should NOT be brought into schools. ArgumentThe way I see it, cell phones are a distraction in classrooms. Considering students can text each other during class and the phones themselves make sounds that do not always turn off completely, distractions can often be unavoidable. Shouldnt we also consider that conversations and arguments through texting can also further distract students and even cause behavioral problems. CounterargumentMy opponent argues that parents want their children to be able to contact them in case of an emergency. But what about the phones already available to students in school for emergencies during school hours? Shouldnt we consider that if there is an emergency, an adult will still need to talk to the parent to plan a solution. Allowing for the fact that students are able to check in their phones at the corner bodega, still making them available to contact their parents after school, students already have ways to contact their parents in cases of emergencies without the disruptions they cause in the classroom. Position: Cell phones should be allowed in schools. ArgumentCounterargumentMid-Workshop ConnectionsWe are rocking
