    The great danger in

    todaysworld, pervaded as it

    is by consumerism, is the

    desolation and anguish born

of a complacent yet covetousheart, the feverish pursuit of

    frivolous pleasures, and a

    blunted conscience.

Whenever our interiorlife becomes caught up in its

    own interests and concerns,

there is no longer room for

others, no place for the poor.

    Godsvoice is no longer

heard, the quiet joy of his

love is no longer felt, and the

    desire to do good fades.

    (Evangelii Gaudium)

    Association of Past Pupils of

    Salesian Houses of Formation

    Inc.

Message from the Office of the

    Chairman, President & CEO

    November 24, 2013

    Dear brothers and sisters, associate

    and honorary members, families,

    volunteers, partners and friends of

    our fraternity,

We never tire of reaching out to thepoor.

Here in the South it is heartwarming

to note that individual members of the

    APPS, DBPPOL, SBS X-Aspirants

groups, past pupils of the Don Bosco

    Formation Center of Lawaan, DBCAI,

and many other Bosconian alumniclusters are organizing their own

    relief missions, donations and fund-

raising activities for the victims of the

    deadly earthquake and super

    typhoon Yolanda.

I am sure that our counterpart in the

north, the ASH are, in various

    capacities whether as parishioners or

members of other religious and civic

    groups, silently helping, sharing and

giving also to the Visayas and

    Mindanao-stricken areas. This does

not get in the way, however, of the

    feverish preparations they are doing

    for the planned homecoming-family

    day immersion and outreach mission

which will be held in February 8 nextyear. They have decided to hold it this

time in Don Bosco Calauan, home to

more than 30,000 depressed and still

    traumatized estero- relocatees from

the Pasig river, victims of typhoon

    Ondoy.

As we join in the 3-year preparationfor Don Boscos200th birth, the

Rector Major asks us that if we want

to grow in holiness, let us "go back to

our rootsto the original charism of

the spirit of the Founder, develop an

oratorian heart for the poor and

    abandoned youth and educate our

young starting with our families - afterthe spirituality of Joy and Mercy of the

Preventive System. This is but the

core of our formation and philosophy

when we entered the seminary once

upon a time with idealism and with

    passion. Remember?

To be sure, we are not mereextensions of the SDBs in the

Philippines but partners in living and

spreading the spirit of Don Bosco in

the places we live and work, now as

active lay people in the Church and in

    society.

Let us become more relevant in our

country which is corrupted with sin

and strife and keep renewing ourcommitment to eradicate evil. This is

how we help spread the Salesian

spirit, and partner with the religious

society of the Salesians. This is how

we show our gratitude to St. John

    Bosco, our loving father.

    Da mihi animas!

    Forever grateful for our Salesian

    formation,

    DR. LEVY LARA LANARIA

    The ASSOCIATION OF PAST PUPILS

OF SALESIAN HOUSES OF FORMATION INC.

Is the brotherhood of those who entered a Salesian seminary.

As former aspirant- seminarians , brothers, clerics or priests, now asactive lay Salesians in the world - whether married or in the singleblessed state ...

    - Or whether they continue to remain Salesian religious or have

transferred to another congregation, or have become members ofthe diocesan clergy ...

    - Together with their families and those who share in this noblevision

    -

They vow to renew, strengthen and deepen the call to holinessthrough the Salesian formation acquired, and spread the spiritualityof St. John Bosco in their families and communities, in society, in thechurch and in the world, for the salvation of souls of the poorest ofthe young.

If we are one in heart, we can surely do ten times as much.
