DISMANTLING :-Mark the outer perimeter of the balcony areawhich are to be demolished. Provide required safety arrangementslike barricading the area right below with isolated tape. Break theconcrete using an electrically operated chipping machine withoutcreating much of sound and vibration to the nearby areas. Thechipping should be done to the edge of the cantilever beam also.Placing the handrails in position with required arrangements likewelding, etc..Stacking of steel bars if any and disposal ofunserviceable material woutside the premises to a distance as per theinstructions of the Engineer in Charge.

b ANCHORING

ANCHORING :Mark the position of holes to be drilled foranchoring the rebar into the lintel beam/beam. Drill 12mm dia holesin the marked places using rotary hammer drilling machine ofreputed make to a depth of 100mm into the lintel beam/beam. Cleanthe holes neatly and wash the same with jet of water. Allow it to dryand make sure that no fine dust particles are present in the holes.Mix the base and hardener of the polyester resin using a spatula andpush the same in to the holes with a proper tool so that the bottommost point of the hole receives the material. The filling is to be donefor a minimum portion of 1/3rd of the hole depth. Now insert therebar which need to be anchored for the provision of new sunshade,gently and finish the surface of the around the rebar area, using thesame material which comes out of the hole excessively.

PROVISION OF GALVANIC ANODES : Prior to installation of theGalvashield XP units, check the continuity of the steelreinforcement. Any loss of continuity will require additionalelectrical connections or restoration of continuity by effectivemeans. Select a location for the Galvashield XP as close as practicalto the edge of the dismantled location of the repair zone. GalvashieldXP units should be positioned around/along the repair boundary. Inaddition to standard substrate preparation, the Galvashield XPanode(s) shall be thoroughly pre-soaked in clean water for aminimum of 4 hours and a maximum of 6 hours, prior to theapplication of the repair mortar. Tighten tie wires using GalvashieldFixing Tool so that no free movement is possible, thus ensuring goodelectrical continuity. PLASTRING: Hack the surface of the RCC member area of thesunshade and provide the mechanical bond for the plaster. Providecement sand mortar 1:3 added with waterproofing admixture,normally at the rate of not more than 150ml per bag of cement.Plaster the surface using the prepared mortar to the required line andlength, followed by curing the surface. Curing shall be started assoon as the plaster has hardened sufficiently.The plaster shall bekept wet for a period of at least 7 days. During this period, it shall besuitably protected from all damages at the contractor’s expense bysuch means as the Engineer-in-Charge may approve.

3 POLYMER MODIFED MORTARPOLYMER MODIFED MORTAR : Chip off the corrosion damagedareas on the beam/column/sunshade or any other structural members.Clean reinforcement and make sure that there are no traces of rust onthe surface of existing rebars. Check for the depth of carbonationusing the phenophthaline indicator and make sure that thecontaminated concrete is removed completely. Wet the surface withpotable water and make sure that the surface is kept moist so that thewater cement ratio in the polymer modified mortar is maintained.Prepare the acrylic based jointing compound by mixing the acrylicwith water and cement in the ratio of 1:3:1 and apply the same to theprepared surface as primer. Prepare cement sand mortar 1:3 addedwith the polymer at the rate of 2 litres per bag of cement and applythe same to the primed surface followed by a smooth finish. Soonafter the finishing is over, apply the curing compound as stated in theitem number 2 - i

b SHEAR CONNECTORS

SHEAR CONNECTORS : Drilling 12mm dia holes up to a depth of75mm maximum and fixing 8mm dia L shaped anchor rods as shearconnectors at every 300mm c/c on the surfaces of the columns/beamsor any other structural member as the case may be. Clean the sameusing water and make sure that there are no fine particles present inthe hole. Mix the base and hardener of the polyester resin with thespatula thoroughly. Fill the drilled and cleaned holes to a minimumdepth of 1/3rd of the hole with the prepared polyester resin. Makesure that the resin has reached till the end of the hole. At this stagepush the shear connector gently in to the hole and finish the excessresin which comes out of the hole and allow the shear connectors notto be disturbed for minimum 20 minutes - complete.

ADDITIONAL REINFORCEMENT : Check the diameter of theexisting rebars and if the diameter is less than 50% of the originaldiameter, provide additional reinforcement. Cut 12mm dia bars asmain reinforcement to the required length with proper developmentlength. Tie them to the prefixed shear connectors so that theadditional rebar acts monolithically with the existing ones and coreconcrete. In the case of the shear reinforcement also, if the diameterof the rebars are reduced, provide 8mm dia stirrups in the form of 2"U" shaped bars. Tie them properly so that it has a tight contact withthe main bars.

MICRO CONCRETING :-Stock sufficient quantity of microconcrete and 12mm down graded chips on site to enable thecompletion of the pouring in a continuous operation. An approvedconcrete mixer or a slow speed heavy duty drilling machine fittedwith mixing paddle shall be used. Mix the micro concrete and the12mm down grade chips in the ratio of 1: 0.5 by weight withrequired quantity of water and place the same to the prefixedformwork well before the epoxy jointing compound dries up.Remove the formwork after 24 hours in the case of columns andafter a period of 72 hours in the case of slab and beam and check forany surface defects and if so apply te polymer modified mortar -complete.

CORE CUTTING :-Mark the core holes along the beam to facilitatefor the pouring of micro concrete. The core cutting need to be donewith an electrically operated core drilling machine fitted withdiamond tool of dia not less than 72mm and to the entire depth of theslab portion. Care to be taken to minimize the cutting of the rebar asreinforcements are expected at the negative bending moment zone.

WATERPROOFING :-All the surfaces which are to receive thewaterproofing coating like Brushbond, must be free from dirt or anyother form of foreign matter which might affect adhesion. Acid washand water wash the surface and allow it to surface dry condition.Mix the part A and part B of the polymer modified cementitouscoating mechanically using an electrical operated heavy drillingmachine fitted with mix paddle. Apply the same in two coats overthe prepared surface one after the other dries up with a minimuminterval of 4 hours between the coats. Providing pressure grouting inall the vertical and horizontal joint including the suspected areas.19mm dia holes in the slab at 1.0 m c/c to a depth of about 75 mmand provide PVC nipples using rapid setting cement to serve asnozzles for grouting. Prepare cement slurry with shrinkagecompensating additive (Cebex 100 manufactured by M/s Fosroc Chemicals or equivalent)for grouting the same Inject the same using a positive displacementhand operated pressure grouting pump until the nipple refuses thegrout. Cut the nipple and finish the same. Stagnate the water for aminimum period of 3 days.

c PROTECTIVE PLASTERPROTECTIVE PLASTER :-Providing cement sand mortar 1 :4 andapply the same to an average thickness of 12 mm cement finishedwith a floating coat of neat cement mix with water proofingcompound of approved quality in proportion recommended by themanufacturer.

Rs.10 CHIPPING AND REPLASTERING ON WALLS

The mortar of the patch, where the existing plaster has cracked,crumbled or sounds hollow when gently tapped on the surface, shallbe removed. The patch shall be cut out to a square or rectangularshape marked on the wall as directed by the Engineer-in-Charge orhis authorized representative. The edges shall be slightly under cut toprovide a neat joint. The masonry joints which become exposed afterremoval of old plaster shall be raked out to a minimum depth of 10mm in the case of brick work and 20 mm in the case of stone work.The raking shall be carried out uniformly with a raking tool and notwith a basuli, and loose mortar dusted off. The surface shall then bethoroughly washed with water, and kept wet till plastering iscommenced. Mortar of 1 : 4 mix with the specified sand shall beused, cement finished with a floating coat of neat cement of mixwith water proofing compound of approved quality in proportionrecommended by the manufacturer. The finished plastering surfaceshould have a smooth finish and should match with the surroundssurface. The method of application shall be as per the standards forsingle coat plaster work of the specified mix and all dismantledmortar & rubbish etc. shall be disposed off within 24 hours afterdismantling promptly as directed by the Engineer-in-Charge.
