All Navy Sports

• All-Navy Sports is a program that allows Sailors

who possess the athletic skills to compete above

the intramural level, in team or individual sports, a

chance to represent the Navy at higher level

athletic competitions.

• All-Navy teams participate in the Department of

Defense’s Sports program and compete in the

Armed Forces Championships against teams from

the Marine Corps, Army and Air Force.

• The United States Coast Guard fields a team for

Armed Forces Rugby only. Otherwise, the Coast

Guard participates as part of Navy Teams.

38

Page 39: N921 TCON Slides - 9 May 2013

All Navy Sports

• All officers and enlisted personnel, including

selected reservists.

• Personnel of other services stationed at naval

commands may be selected to represent the Navy

only with the concurrence of their parent service.

The same standard applies to Navy personnel who

are assigned to other than naval commands.

UNIQUE OPPORTUNITIES

• Personnel who feel they possess the high degree

of athletic ability required to represent the Navy in

Armed Forces and/or national championships, or

the United States in any approved international

competition are encouraged to apply at any time.

These applications will be subject to an evaluation

by the appropriate national sports governing body

for that sport. Only prime candidates, as verified

by the national sports governing body, will be

considered for financial support from the Navy

Sports Program. Prime candidates may require

special consideration in duty status or location to

accomplish specialized athletic training.

42

Page 43: N921 TCON Slides - 9 May 2013

WHO ARE OUR ATHLETES

• All-Navy Athletes come from shore or sea , conus

and oconus commands. They are officers and

enlisted alike, and all compete for positions on a

level playing field. All-Navy Athletes are highly

skilled at their chosen sport. Many are former

collegiate athletes. In fact, we have had Division 1,

All Americans, wear the Navy athletic uniform. Is it

required that participants be former college

athletes? Absolutely not. What is required is that

an applicant has demonstrated success at his or

her sport at high levels of competition. Athletes

are selected based on verifiable information they

put on their application/resume’.
