He moved to Florida in 1993 and worked for the University Parkway Golf and Country Club- ironically this was the very same community that opposed Walmart #1171 relocating- the store that Ray would eventually manage. Ray attended the University of Florida and graduated in 1995 with a major in Finance. Ray started working for Walmart as an Assistant Manager Trainee at Store #1874 in Silver Springs, Florida. Back then the program was six months long and Ray remembers spending his first three days doing nothing but CBL’s. He finished every one of them before he ever met the Store Manager. After graduating the program- Ray was assigned to Store #697 in Ocala as an Assistant Manager. He worked under Don O’Grady- who is now a buyer in Bentonville. Ray also worked for a while in Palatka, Florida as an Assistant Manager before being promoted to a Co- Manager in Gainesville. In 1999 Ray was promoted to the Store Manager of Store #1482 in Tampa. Ray came back to the Bradenton area as the Store Manager of Store #1171. Then about four years ago Ray came to our store and has been our Store Manager ever since. Many people might not know that Ray’s mother was a nun and his father was a priest. Early in life they both felt a calling to a Religious life and at some point along the way they wanted to build a family. Ray loves his parents even more for the experiences they had in life and the courage it took to follow their dreams. Ray likes to read, golf, play video games including Guitar Hero, and go bike riding. He also loves his family. One little known fact about Ray that he really tries to keep a secret is that he is a big fan of the Florida Gators.….. Lisa A. (3rd Shift Jewelry) modeling one of our new WaterBoy water coolers. What happened to our water cooler??? It disappeared from our break room! We actually have a newer, more cost effective water cooler system in our break room. As you know- we use to receive filter water from the Waterboy Company in large 5 gallon bottles- this new cooler eliminates the bottles all together. This new cooler filters our tap water in the same way they do at the plant- but eliminates the need to store dozens of bottles in our break room, and since we don’t have to purchase these bottles from the company anymore- we are saving money for our bonus checks. Now all we have to pay for is the actual water cooler rental, and new filters- saving us a lot of money for our bonus checks.

Last Saturday night “We the Kings” lead singer Travis Clark was spotted shopping in our store! For those that don’t know about his band- they have one of the top songs playing on the radio right now (Check Yes Juliet). They recently completed their world tour- and are now back home in Bradenton. Travis Clark is a Bradenton native- so it’s safe to say he’ll be in our store shopping from time to time. I’m sure he won’t mind signing a few autographs- but please respect his privacy when he is shopping in our store. Remember- he is one of our customers after all.

For those interested- we do sell their debut album in our Electronics Department for only $8.82!

FUN BLOOD FACTS: The rarest blood group in the world is a type of Bombay blood known as H-H. It was first discovered in 1950, and it is believed that only 57 people in the world have it- all of them from India. If all the iron in the human body were gathered together, there would be enough to make a medium sized nail.

BirthdaysBirthdaysBirthdaysBirthdays I’ve been asked by a few of you why I don’t list birthdays in this newsletter. Some of our associates don’t feel comfortable with their Birthdays being listed- either for personal or Religious reasons. I respect their wishes and will not list their Birthdays. With over 450 associates working here- it’s hard to know which associates are okay with their Birthday being listed, and which aren’t- so I made the decision to not list Birthdays in this newsletter. *****************************

SpotSpotSpotSpot----Light ManagerLight ManagerLight ManagerLight Manager What can be said about Debra that hasn’t already been said? She is a very outgoing associate that is always willing to help out when needed. She is very competitive, organized, and knows how to get the job done. She started at Store #1298 in Jacksonville, North Carolina working in the Infants Department. She came to our store and worked as a Department Manager in numerous areas of the store including Lingerie and HBA. She then went overnights to work in the Seasonal Department. Debra was instrumental in setting up and organizing our Holiday areas for several seasons. She then went back to the dayshift as the Stationary Department Manager, and is currently the Health & Beauty Aides Department Manager.

Before Walmart, Debra ran a home daycare for about 11 years. Besides Walmart, Debra also currently works for Papa John’s Pizza. Debra has one daughter, and two sons, one of which, Johnny, also works at our store. In the little spare time that Debra has, she likes to spend it with her kids. One of her hobbies is collecting anything with lighthouses on it. Debra’s future goals are to move up with the company- she hopes to become either a Support Manager or to enter the Assistant Manager Training Program within the next six months. She would like to thank all of her HBA associates for doing a great job in her department. *****************************

Late one foggy night, a Yankees fan and a Red Sox fan collide head-on while driving across a bridge. Fortunately, both are unhurt, but their cars are pretty banged up. “This is a sign that we should put away our differences and live as friends instead of rivals.” say the Yankees fan. “You’re right,” says the Red Sox fan. He pops open the trunk and takes out a bottle of bourbon. “Let’s toast to our newfound friendship.” The Yankees fan takes a big swig and hands back the bottle. “Your turn!” “Nah,” says the Sox fan, tossing the bottle into the river. “I think I’ll just wait for the police to show up.”

FUN FACT: In 1650, the Bishop of Winchester, England borrowed a book from the Somerset County Library. It was not returned to the library until 1985- 335 years later, at which point it had accrued $6,000 in late fees. The best part is that the title of the book was, “The Book of Fines”!!!

How do you know when you've

run out of invisible ink?

Why are there interstate highways in Hawaii?

Why do they call it “chili” if it's hot?

Why do they call it a TV set when you only get one?

If you choke a Smurf, what color does it turn?

Why is it impossible to lick your elbow?

Why do drive-thru ATM’s have brail text?

Why is everyone trying to lick their elbows? Okay- go ahead and try, we’ll wait.

Merrill LynchMerrill LynchMerrill LynchMerrill Lynch To All Associates, Today, Bank of America announced that it will acquire Merrill Lynch, the trustee and record keeper of Walmart’s Profit Sharing and 401(k) Plan. We want to make sure you know what this acquisition means for your retirement savings with the company. This acquisition is expected to close during the first quarter of 2009, and we don’t anticipate that associates or our Plan will see any significant changes. Your Profit Sharing and 401(k) Plan funds will continue to be invested as you have directed. Keep in mind that Merrill Lynch only performs services with respect to our Plan. Our Plan assets are not invested in Merrill Lynch stock. As a result, the acquisition of Merrill Lynch will not affect the financial returns of the Plan or otherwise put Plan assets at risk. Bottom line: The conversion to Bank of America will not change how the Profit Sharing and 401(k) Plan assets are managed. You will continue to have the ability to access, contribute and manage (when eligible) your Profit Sharing and 401(k) Plan accounts. As we learn more about the acquisition, we will continue to keep you posted. If you have questions about your Profit Sharing and 401(k) account, call the Customer Service Center at (888) 968-4015.
