W Visiting Day is when your parents come to camp to see you. Your parents can
take you out of camp, sign up for next year, have a tour, and more! Your par-
ents can take you to CLC. It is about 6 hours long. While you’re with your par-
ents you can pick up your projects! I had a blast at visiting day, I hope you did
too!

Visiting Day
It’s the fourth week of camp, and color war still hasn’t broken out. Many
people think that it might be tonight. This is because for the past two years
first session color breakout has been on Friday night services. We believe that
we have it on Friday nights because on Shabbat night everyone is together.
Also, people that are sick in the infirmary can watch the breakout and listen
to the music. Color war is one of our favorite activities. Most campers also
like this color extravaganza because it has so many fun activities. For instance,
every color war, kids enjoy having camper captains. The camper captains
might have some special events. Throughout the day, we have so many events
that put a grin from ear to ear on our faces, but at the end of the day one
team wins. Who will it be… the green team or the gold team?

High Ropes
P A G E 6 V O L U M E 3 , I S S U E 2
High Ropes is a very fun activity. At High Ropes, there are many elements to choose
from. There are 3 zip-lines. The higher they get the faster they go, so the highest zip-line
is the fastest and the longest. When you do the zip-lines, you also get a little wet by going
through a water fountain. Another fun thing to do at high ropes is the broken bridge. You
have to walk across a broken bridge, which can be scary sometimes. But, once you do it,
it is really fun! Sometimes the instructors challenge you to stand with one foot and jump
up and down. They also have rock-climbing. I’ve always thought that it would be amazing
to make it to the top of the wall! There is also a vertical gym. On the vertical gym, you
have to get past a few obstacles while climbing to the top. Honestly, everything at High
Ropes is amazing! Sign up today!
-Maya, Naomi
In Low Ropes, you get to play fun games like Shark Attack, Islands, and the Wiggly
Log. There are other fun things to do in Low Ropes too, like the Spider Web, All
Aboard, and Jacob’s Ladder. I love doing Low Ropes for Wild Card. I did it this
week! We did 10 minutes of the Spider Web and 20 minutes of Shark Attack (my
bunk’s favorite game). In Shark Attack, you have to run, jump, and latch onto a
wooden wall. Then, the instructor will tell you to take certain body parts (left hand,
right foot, etc.) of off the wall. Low Ropes is one of my favorite activities, and I hope
it is for you too! -Miles, Dan
Wouldn’t it be cool if something you wrote was in the
camp’s newspaper? Newspaper is an activity for electives
that lets you do just that! You can write practically any-
thing! The newspaper comes out every two weeks. I
think it is a lot of fun! Grace is the counselor who runs
newspaper. She is very nice and helpful. She can give sug-
gestions to people who are having trouble with their arti-
cles. She will always make sure whatever you are writing
is great for the newspaper! You can write an article, an
interview, a poem, riddles, puzzles, and more! I’ve heard
that everyone who has ever been there has had so much
fun and are always laughing! It is always a great time!

Boating in the lake, everyone loves it. But, it can get dan-
gerous! There have been reports of people falling off of
paddleboards and very rarely, capsizing canoes! I have
been in a little accident before. I remember like it was
yesterday… well, it was yesterday! I was in a kayak and I
crashed into a paddleboard. Then, the paddleboard went
right over my kayak! I was watching rockets launch while
I was in my kayak, so I didn’t notice that I was going to
bump into someone. The moral of the story is to be cau-
tious while boating!

Have you ever been to Model Making before? It is awesome!
Models is a shop at camp Nah-Jee-Wah. Maya, the specialist,
is super helpful and very nice! So far, I have made clay ani-
mals and planets. For the clay animals, we used model magic
clay and shaped it into different animals. Then, we painted
and added details to them! Finally, we made a background/
setting for the animals. The planets we made are awesome
too! First, we took a balloon and used modgepodge to glue
different types of material to the balloon, resulting in our
own planet! I LOVE MODELS!
-Grace, Hannah
One of my favorite activities is the lake. The lake is a lot of fun because
there are a lot of different things to do in the lake, like the Rave (which
is my personal favorite). There’s also the Aqua-glide which is also really
fun. It is like a slide that floats in the middle of the water. At the lake,
there is also the 100ft slide which shoots you into the water! Outside of
the lake is just as fun. You can play volleyball or relac and read a book on
the grass. Boating is one of the best activities at the lake. You can kayak,
canoe, paddleboard, and more. You also get to banana boat every once
in a while.
If it is your first time riding a horse, don’t get
worried! All of the horses are really nice. If
you don’t know how to ride them, the
teachers will teach you. I am sure you will
learn very quickly. To horseback ride, you
need boots with a heel, long pants, and a
helmet. If you don’t have a helmet, they will
let you borrow one. Also, I recommend
wearing bug spray. It is a lot of fun, so I rec-
ommend giving it a try!

As you are aware, many people go up to the top of the giant swing, and are brave. But others… are a
little too scared to. What’s the reason for this? The answer is clear: people’s opinions on the giant
swings’ safety varies. The people with opinions that it’s dangerous choose to not go to the top. Some
people have this opinion because they are afraid of heights or afraid of trying something new. By the
way, you’re not alone. The first time I went on it, I was scared, but I did it! After all, the giant swing is
safe, no matter your fears. So, let today be the day that you do the giant swing. Don’t be the one to not
give it a chance. Spread the word.

Being in the play is a lot of work. I should know consid-
ering I’m Maria. Sometimes I’m there for 1 period, some-
times I’m there for all 6. But, it’s fun! You make so many
friends. I’ve met almost everyone in the play, and they’re
all really nice! I now have friends in many different divi-
sions.
If you saw the play and enjoyed it, you should con-
sider joining the play either next session if you are an 8
weeker, or next year if you’re a 4 weeker. But, let me tell
you something. Drama means commitment! If you are not
willing to be at Drama all day, you might not want to try
out. It’s a ton of work but it is still extremely fun. Hope
you enjoyed the show!
-Sophie, Hannah
Who likes music? I know I do. Well, you can learn all about it in this session’s musical: The Sound of Music! This drama is
very exciting, especially in some of the scenes with the seven kids and Maria. For all of those eight weekers and second ses-
sion campers who didn’t audition, there is no reason to worry about not getting a part in the play. Everybody makes it! Eve-
ryone is included. Auditions aren’t as bad as you think. Simply follow the directions and you’ll get through just fine. What you
have to do is simple. You read aloud some lines and sing happy birthday. You will have to miss some activities but it’s worth
it. All of the songs will be stuck in your head. My personal favorite is 16 going on 17. In fact, I sing it! Tell me your favorite
song if you see me around and enjoy the show!
-Tanner, Levi
The Sound of Music
Here in Nah-Jee-Wah, starring campers from all divisions, we showed The Sound of
Music. It was amazing! There were two performances that took place on Wednesday,
July 20, 2016. Congratulations to all of the people that worked very hard for this
musical!
Created by Sarah, Ivy, Michelle, and Brooke from Hannah
Every session, the Drama crew puts on a different
musical. This year, the crew put on The Sound of
Music. The head of drama is Marceline, and the rest
of the crew is Scarlet, Sam, and Lexi. They all work
very well together. There are auditions to see what
part you fit best. Everyone gets an equal chance.
Even if you don’t get a main part, there is always a
very important ensemble that you can join. That
way, everybody who tries out gets a part! Everyone
gets stage makeup, even the boys! I love the way
the drama crew puts together these amazing
shows. Can’t wait for next year!

K’far Teva
P A G E 9 V O L U M E 3 , I S S U E 2
In camp, there is an overnight trip that EVERYONE looks forward to. This overnight
is called K’far Teva. During the camping overnight, you cook dinner and dessert over
a fire. You play games and socialize with your friends. When I went, we ate Israeli
salad, rice, and vegetable stir fry. Then we roasted marshmallows and bananas over
the fire and put the marshmallows in between two cookies to make s’mores. They
were delicious! We also played games throughout the night. These games included an
Israeli hand game, brain teasers with sticks, and Mafia. After our fun night, it was time
to sleep. We all slept in tents and had time to hang out with our friends. When we
woke up, it was time to leave. My favorite thing about K’far Teva was being in the
woods. It was so peaceful, with the wind rustling at night and the birds chirping in the
morning. The camping experience really gave me a time to think, reflect, and relax.
Based on amazing experience at K’far Teva, I suggest you go camping soon!
-Mikayla, Hannah
The day before visiting day was an exciting day! We had to clean really hard for our
guests. Because of this, we had the opportunity to earn DOUBLE GOLD BROOMS! At
Havdala, Jason announced the gold brooms to the entire camp. Everyone was hoping
for an all camp gold sweep (when every single bunk in camp gets a gold)! Jason started
with Dan, Levi, and Naomi. Everyone kept getting gold brooms, so everyone was get-
ting excited! After that was Asher and then Abi. Both divisions got gold sweeps, so eve-
ryone was screaming wildly! Then the moment of truth came, it was all up to Hannah.
“Bunks 7, 8, 9, 12, 14,15…GOLD!!!” Everyone was so excited, they all stood up and
cheered. WE GOT AN ALL CAMP GOLD SWEEP!
-Henry, Asher

Mystery Trip In the third week of camp, Hannah and Levi found out that there was going to be a trip out
of camp. But, the trip was a mystery! After a couple of days, the two divisions were eager to
find out where they were going. One of the days in that week, Hannah and Levi were told
they were eating dinner earlier than usual. It was then that they knew when the trip was!
The divisions were told their exciting trip was to clean toilets. When they finally arrived at
the location, both of the division noticed that instead of cleaning toilets they were watching
the movie, “The Secret Life of Pets!” Each counselor passed out a cup of soda (campers got
to choose what kind), and a bag of popcorn. This was a special treat and a fun trip for us and
the other campers that participated. In conclusion, the mystery trip was an amazing experi-
ence for all of the kids and will be for the next group next year!

Selfie Scavenger Hunt
The Water Bottle Game
Lip-Sync To perform in the all camp lip-sync battle, you had to have won your division’s first
round of try outs. You might be asking, “What is the lip-sync battle?” Well, it is
when 1 or 2 bunks from each division get to perform a song and dance for the en-
tire camp. Then, the judges decide who has the best dance and song. It is really im-
portant to remember to lip-sync the words when you’re dancing! This year, two
bunks from Abi performed Wrecking Ball and a song from Hamilton. Then, Asher,
Dan, Naomi, Levi, and Hannah represented their divisions. Dan Bunk 5 won the
competition with their performance of Single Ladies by Beyonce. Congratulations
Bunk 5!
In my bunk, we play a really fun game called “The Water Bottle Game.” The water bottle game is a lot of fun to
play during rest hour or when you have some free time. It’s a great way to practice teamwork. First and fore-
most, you will need a water bottle. Sit in a circle with everyone who wants to play. The goal of the game is to
pass the water bottle around without using your whole hand. Here are some ways you can pass the water bottle
around:
Elbows
Pinky fingers
Thumbs
Feet
Chin/neck
And more!
Have fun playing this game created by Naomi 46!
Did you see any Hannah girls running around camp and taking selfies this week?
Well, it was because we were participating in a selfie scavenger hunt! You may
ask, “what is a selfie scavenger hunt?” A selfie scavenger hunt is an evening ac-
tivity where each bunk follows a list of challenges and takes selfies to prove
them. Some examples are: take a picture with an assistant director or take a
picture flexing with Will from Athletics. My favorite challenge was a human
raking selfie where we held my friend Alana over a garbage can. Every single
member of the bunk must be included in each selfie or it does not count. We
had 30 minutes to complete as many selfie challenges as possible. Once the 30
minutes were up, the whole division came back to look at all the selfies. Each
picture was worth a different amount of points based on creativity. It was sooo
much fun!

Have you ever chosen lacrosse as your sport for athletics?
I LOVE lacrosse with Avery. Lacrosse is the sport where
you have a stick and a ball and try to make shots and
passes to each other. With Avery, you will learn to hold
the stick correctly, make passes, and make shots. Avery is
really nice! She will go over anything you are having trou-
ble with. She will also make sure you are having fun. Coach
Avery sets up new challenges every week. They are op-
tional, but you’ll probably want to do them! They’re fun
and sometimes you get a prize if you complete them!
Overall, it is an amazing activity. Try it out!
-Lauren, Naomi
Nah-Jee-Wah has a very good sports program. Every time I walk to athletics, I feel like I’m walking through 30% of
the camp because it is SO BIG. Nah-Jee-Wah has a lot of sports to offer including basketball, soccer, tennis, arch-
ery, gymnastics, dance, etc. And, guess what! There are teams to go with each sport. The teams create friendships
between campers of all divisions. Another good thing about athletics is that we’re always ready to lend a helping
hand. For example, when one division does not have enough players for their team’s upcoming game, they can
always ask for help from another division. At athletics, no one cares about what gender you are or how old you
are. You can always participate no matter what! I believe everybody should have a chance to try out Nah-Jee-
Wah’s great athletics activities.
-Ariel K, Abi
