UW-Extension experts provide onlineresources and information aboutdrought

Madison, Wis. – Southern Wisconsinis now in drought conditions that rivalthose of 1988. These conditions posechallenges for all Wisconsin residents, both urban and rural.

Potential crop losses may provestressful to cash grain farmers as theystruggle to meet commitments, andfor livestock farmers who requirelarge amounts of quality feed andforage. Urban residents wonder whatto do about their lawns, gardens andtrees. Everyone is concerned aboutheat exhaustion.

While the University of Wisconsin-Extension cannot do anything aboutthe rain, there are choices to be madeabout capturing as much gain aspossible from drought-affected acres, making decisions about herdmanagement and knowing how toavoid heat stress.

Answers to many drought-relatedquestions can be found online atUniversity of Wisconsin-Extension,Cooperative Extension’s “ExtensionResponds” website:http://fyi.uwex.edu/drought2012
