CLASS/TEACHER UPDATES

MRS NABY’S RECEPTION CLASS

Assalaam u alaikum (WRWB),

We welcomed a few more new friends into our class where all students have settled in really well in Term 3. We are working very hard as usual, and enjoying our learning journey.

In Maths this term we are focusing on expanding our number knowledge of counting to 30 and back, making groups in numbers, number patterns, learn-ing about money, subtraction and addition problems using a number line.

In Literacy we are always learning our letters, sounds and blends, emphasizing the importance of practis-ing our sight words and reading on a daily basis. Well done to those who are practising every day! We are now writing simple sentences filling in the correct punctuation; this gives students the challenge of recalling punctuation rules on their own.

In Geography we are learning about mountains and its’ significance to Aboriginal culture, we are making our own animal habitats for design and technology- cannot wait to see the final result! Insha Allah we will plan a trip to the zoo towards the end of the term.

In Science we are exploring different materials and the effect of heat on materials. We have been practis-

ing really hard for our Eid festival program which will depict this holy month of Dhul Hijjah and the signifi-cance of Eid al Adha.

A request to all parents our school has a no nut pol-icy, so please do not send any foods that have nuts in them. Some students are still bringing in Nutella sandwiches/rolls, nut bars and nut wafers.

We are making some beautiful Eid decorations to adorn our classroom. Eid Mubarak to all and may Allah (SWT) accept all our duas. Ameen.

WassalaamMrs Zulekha Naby

MS HINA’S YEAR 1 CLASS

Assalamu Alykum, We have had a very exciting start to the term. In literacy, the students are continuously building on their skills of reading and writing. We are learning new digraphs every week. Weekly dictation is going ahead with great success. The students are now writing recounts and learning about verbs.

In numeracy, the students are working on learning newer strategies to solve addition and subtraction problems. Everyone seemed to enjoy learning about the concept of money and are seen practicing it on daily basis.

In Science, we are learning to make healthy choices in terms of what we put in our bodies. In Humanities and Social Sciences, the class is continuing its exploration about the lifestyle of indigenous Australians.

For Art, the students have finished making their own measuring scales and are now working towards making a wall hanging.

I’m sure we are set to end this term on a high note with the cooperation of our parent community. Thanks and kind regards,Hina

MRS MCSHANE’S YEAR 2 CLASS

Dear Families,

What a fantastic start to the term it has been! Children have been excited to finally visit the ICT room and are already improving their literacy and maths skills through the use of fun online activities.

In English, students have been learning all about Australian animals and have been learning how to write a well-structured information report. Ask them some facts about the duck-billed platypus and you will be amazed at their knowledge!

In Maths, we have been learning about length and area and have now moved on to multiplication. Just a reminder to please encourage your child to practice their times tables at home, especially the 2, 3, 5 and 10 times tables which they should be able to instantly recall.

In Design Technologies, students have been looking forward to making their very own Aboriginal Rain Stick, where they will use their skills in drawing Aboriginal symbols in order to make a creative design. It is sure to be a busy end to the term in Year 2!

MRS AYOUBI’S YEAR 3 CLASS

Assalamu Alaikum Dear Year 3 Families,

It’s hard to believe that Week 6 is upon us! This week is very special because we are celebrating the holy Hajj season and the Eid-Al-Adha Al Mubarak. May Allah swt grant us all his blessings during this time insha’Allah.

The children have been busy learning about many things including the art of composing well written information reports. In Maths, we have been exploring multiplication, division, fractions, and number patterns. In science the focus is on investigating the day/night phenomenon and busting the myth of ‘we have day/night time because the sun goes around the earth’ that many students first believed when we began our investigations. The students are amazed by the way our solar system is carefully arranged by Allah swt the Perfect Creator Subhanahu wa Ta’aala.

Alhamduli Allah, the children love accessing the Computer Room to further develop their digital literacy

skills. They have been practicing their typing skills and computational thinking through basic coding. Thank you for everyone who assisted in setting up this additional learning space at IQRA College.

Lastly, my warm wishes go to all our unwell students. I hope that you get better soon insha’Allah.

Kind regards,Mrs. Ayoubi

MR HAFNER’S YEAR 4 CLASS

Term three is nearing its midpoint and time is flying bye. It is again time to reflect on what we have done and look forward to things to come. We are looking forward to seeing all the families in attendance during the celebration.

They have been researching and learning about soil erosion and are in the process of writing an explanation paper discussing humans’ and natures roles in the phenomenon. Students’ have also enjoyed researching and creating Haiku poetry in preparation for presenting their work in the weekly assembly upon completion. Stop by the classroom to have a look at their amazing work!

In Numeracy, students have been delving into the wonderful world of division, fractions and decimal fractions. These concepts are not easy ones and as always, parent participation and encouragement in learning multiplication facts to 10x10 and related division facts at home is greatly appreciated. This will ensure student more quickly and more efficiently solve problems. Thank you for your continued hard work and dedication to your students learning. It is greatly appreciated.

They will also learn to compare fractions with either the same or different denominators. As for number sentences, they will learn what is an equation and how to solve the unknown quantity in the equation.

MS HANA’S ARABIC/QUR’AN/ISLAMIC VALUES CLASS

Assalamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuhu,

Dear Parents/Guardians and students,

Alhamdulillah we start Term 3 with a wide array of programs and activities that were both entertaining and educational for all students, parents and teachers alike. I would like to thank our staff and volunteers for their dedication and efforts in initiating and running programs, activities, excursions and incursions to provide better learning opportunities.

In Term three we have two main events: Eid-al-Adha and the Quran competition. Also, in this term we continue to work on Arabic and Quran memorization. Each year level should memorize three to four suras so please make sure that your child is practicing these suras every day at home. Please help your child/ren complete their Arabic reading and writing homework on a daily basis.

We have an amazing opportunity to learn pure Arabic through reading Quran, and using the same technique in the Arabian curriculum. Students’ reading and writing skills are enhanced and this brings the students’ to the next level in learning the Arabic language.

Our students are also practicing new words everyday, learning the correct pronunciation and the meaning behind the stories of the Quran.

I would like to congratulate my students for their hard work and motivation. I would also like to send special thanks to their fantastic parents and families for helping and supporting their children and insha’Allah this will lead them to big achievements and future success.
