How can I use the steps of the scientific method to identify my elusive, unknown mineral? First, my mineral needed to be examined with the materials I have; my hands and eyes. Before anything, I need to describe my pale green mineral. Interestingly, my mineral had a vitreous luster. My mineral was rough, jagged, and uneven, we call that fracture or cleavage, and mine would be fracture because it was uneven. Overall, I hypothesized that my mineral was either Bakerite or Barite. Finally, I needed to have something besides just looking at the mineral that could help me, so I found the color of the powder of my mineral, which is called streak. This helped the most because it is more reliable than color and my mineral had a streak that was very similar to the answer. In the end, the stakes were high and everybody else in my class got it right, so when he said that most other people guessed that my mineral barite because (He was silent for a moment) It is right! Overall, it was an interesting experiment and a good outcome, so I really enjoyed it.
