SAFE WORK METHOD STATEMENTS

Take 5 safety program We take the safety of our contractors and customers very seriously. WH&S is everyone’s responsibility, and we must all have Safety at the front of our minds.

Take 5 is a safety program that aims to inform employees and their workers about the potential hazards in the workplace and the best preventive measures. While a formal risk assessment procedure is still necessary, it helps to take time and review a particular job. All workers will do this. Stop and take five minutes before they start working.

STOP, LOOK & LISTEN

Start right and you’ll finish the job safely and successfully. Employees should always take time to observe their work area before performing any job. This will help them focus on what they have to do and spot potential problems that may hinder them from completing the work efficiently.

REVIEW THE TASK

Workers should always think about the processes involved in carrying out a particular task. This will remind them about the important steps and effective ways to finish the job. It will allow them to identify the right tools and techniques to use and prepare them beforehand.

IDENTIFY THE RISKS

Occupational safety risks include those that are already present in the workplace and those that may arise during operations.

MANAGE THE RISKS

As a safety measure, employees should not start working if there are potential hazards in the work area. They must report to their supervisor or team leader, who will then review the risks and take necessary action.

GET STARTED AND COMPLETE THE JSA & SWMS USING WHAT YOU HAVE NOTICED DURING YOUR TAKE FIVE SAFETY CHECK

After you have successfully documented and implemented the required preventive measures, it’s time to commence the task. Workers should always perform their jobs with caution to avoid accidents. After completing the task, they must assess the quality of their work and leave the work area in order.

We request that all safety documentation is completed and forwarded to our office with your invoice. Failure to do so will result in delays in payment.

If you have any questions regarding this document or how to implement this documentation please call 0406164613 and we will provide training.

SAFE WORK METHOD STATEMENTS/Safe Work Procedure

INCIDENT / HAZARD PLANNING & RESPONSE An incident is an unplanned event that occurs on site which may cause significant adverse safety or environmental impact or accident. Review the below emergency response plan.

As part of the initial site induction, all employees must be made familiar with the emergency response plan. Ensure site safety, move people from immediate area (warning signs, etc). Take any practical steps necessary to contain the hazard or injury – In the event of serious injury (ie fall from heights) call EMERGENCY

SERVICES immediately.

Report immediately to Site Project Manager, Site Supervisor and First Aid Officer. Notify the client’s project manager (or delegated representative) and the relevant authorities. Complete Incident Report Form.

All lost time injuries, incidents and dangerous occurrences will be reported immediately by the person in charge at time of occurrence. Reporting of an incident/accident followed by an investigation should be made on the appropriate Incident or Hazard Report Form. The level of investigation will be determined by the site safety person in-charge at time of occurrence. All accidents must be reported within the hour to the supervisor or project manager.

FALL ARREST EMERGENCY RECOVERY PLAN In the event of an incident, the main key is to minimise the length of time the worker is suspended.

Only personnel trained in emergency decent features of EXP and suspension trauma can assist in the event of an incident

Precautions to avoid an incident are: Only personnel who have completed approved EWP training are authorised to operate boom lift/scissor lift/working platform (trained in

emergency decent and suspension trauma) The operator must inspect the harness for damage to webbing, buckles and hooks The operator must ensure the fall-arrest harness is correctly fitted before works commence When attaching lanyard to approved anchor point ensure the lanyard must not exceed 1.8m and the anchor point is capable of sustaining

1529kg force At all times designate a EWP trained worker to keep elevated workers under constant observation whilst works are in progress.

SAFE WORK METHOD STATEMENTS/Safe Work Procedure

PLANT & EQUIPMENT BARRIERS

Barriers are to be setup where the working area is deemed to be a potential hazard to the public. When working at heights and with the risk of falling objects. Use witches hats available from store.

HEIGHTS & LADDERS Working at heights and using ladders have a continual element of danger where there are various factors and elements that could end up in a fatal or a major health risk.

For the above reason, MORAN’S ELECTRICAL & SECURITY has produced a height and ladder policy and procedure along with induction and other onsite training that should be taken into account on every occasion where height becomes part of the works.

A Hard Hat must be worn at all times when working at heights.

The Following work safety instructions for using a ladder are to be adhered to: Always use provided industrial fibre glass ladders Inspect ladder for defects or damage before use The Ladder should extend 1m above access level The Ladder is to be either tied off (attached to stiles of the ladder) or secured firmly by another person Set the Ladder at a slope of 4 in 1 (must be angled 1 out – 4 up) Do not climb higher than the third rung from the top Maintain 3 points of contact with the ladder at one time, both hands one foot or both feet one hand, with hands gripping the stiles or each rung when ascending or

descending Carry tools in a tool belt, pouch or holster, not in your hands, so you can keep hold of the ladder When working above 2 metres, a harness is to be worn and secured to approved anchorage points.

If the work area can not be reached by ladder the use of a height working platform will be required; Use of height working platforms (ie Boom, Scissor Lifts) will be arranged by the Site Supervisor All operators must have completed an authorised training course and be EWP (Elevated Working Platform) certified

Strict adherence (according to policy) where the use of ladders is required, project managers must ensure that there is not a contractual issue for height, size and requirement to the actual work/project where ladders may be restricted according to the project contract (contract must be checked for this item prior to commencement of any work).

ELECTRICAL All electrical equipment brought on site will be listed in the Electrical Equipment Register and maintained for the duration of the contract. All electrical leads, power tools a nd earth leakage devices are inspected, tested, tagged and recorded. This will be provided on request.

Whilst on site, any electrical equipment found without a tag of current date must be reported to the Site Project Manager and Supervisor immediately and cease operation of the tool.

Where possible use battery operated power tools, if this is unavoidable adhere to the below instructions All electrical leads must be kept off the ground and placed on insulated hangers or stands. Ensure power lead is kept clear of working space Extension leads will NOT be joined together and all plugs and sockets will be non-rewirable moulded or transparent type. Any electrical equipment will not be placed

on or near wet areas.

Where electrical equipment is hired, identical conditions apply as above and any other required procedures from the hire company as a condition of the hire agreement.

MANUAL HANDLING Before attempting to lift and/or move the object, asses the potential risks and hazards as per below;

Sizes, shapes, weight, bulk, stability, hot, cold, sharp edges grip. Environment Position your feet – Make ensuring they are close to the load Secure Grip – use your whole hand, keep arms bent Keep back straight, arms close to body Lift with legs, do not use your back

The following is the National Code of Practice: Manual Handling indicates that the risk of injury increases when: Lifting weights of more than 4.5 kg while seated Lifting weights above the range of 16-20 kg. (weights over 55 kg should not be lifted without mechanical assistance or team lifting; Pushing, pulling and sliding objects that are difficult to move.

The above guidelines are to be adhered to. Young workers under the age of 18 years should not be required to lift, lower or carry more than 16 kg without mechanical or other assistance and/or particular training for the task.

Ensure to bend from knees, avoid lifting and twisting at the same time.
