My View… Roxanne Husmann, WFRW President

The big news…TA DA…Announcing the victory of Eileen Sob-jack in her campaign for NFRW 3rd Vice President! Congratula-tions! What an accomplishment! We all are so very proud of you!!!

I look forward to our Fall Board of Directors Meeting (registration enclosed). I hope you are able to join us.

Onward and upward, don’t give up, don’t give in…infiltrate,

infiltrate, infiltrate!              ~ Roxanne

My thoughts and prayers go out to the communities that were victims of the tragic fires on both sides of the mountain. It has been amazing to see communities put aside their differences and join hands to help each other clean-up and rebuild.

Now as we head towards the general, our focus needs to be on supporting and

getting those Republican candidates elected! As soon as they get elected, it’s on to the Presidential /Governor’s race!

I hope you have had the opportunity to watch the Presidential Debates—we have some amazing candidates that need our help. Remember we must support the GOP nominee. As the winner of the NFRW Straw Poll & Presidential candidate, Carly Fiorina says, “ We are at a pivotal time in our nation’s history.” Ladies, not only are we Republican women the life of the party, but every-one knows we also get the job done! Boots on the ground….

PONDEROSA REPUBLICAN WOMEN, according to their Facebook page, had over 100 people join them on their August 8th Presidential Debate watch party. In addition to watching the

debate, attendees also got a post debate discussion led by WPC’s Eastern WA Director Chris Cargill in a Frank Luntz fashion. They also conducted a straw poll before the debate and again after the debate.

SNOHOMISH COUNTY REPUBLICAN WOMEN’S CLUB is working on their membership goal of 50 full members. With their month-ly meetings drawing a crowd, their membership has grown from 27 to 43 full members and 18 associate mem-bers. They will reach it with speakers like Randy Pepple, founder of Shift WA. Bringing in speakers who are informative and educational is the secret to having their members coming back for more every month.

At their October meeting, the REPUBLICAN WOMEN OF WHATCOM COUNTY is having a fo-rum and discussion for those individuals who are candi-dates for November’s election that are known GOP, thus fulfilling our prime directive of encouraging a well-informed voting public.

CLARK COUNTY REPUBLICAN WOMEN posted pictures of their well- attended “Back to School” dinner night held in September. Speakers were WFRW’s Sharon Hanek who spoke on Common Core and Battleground School Board Candidate Dick Rylander. Reports are that all who attended learned a lot.

SOUTH PUGET SOUND DISTRICT DIRECTOR OF REPUBLICAN WOMEN Connie Coleman-Lacadie reported that over 90 people had RSVP’d to attend the their sponsored Presidential Debate watching event on August 6th. Their viewing was held at the Great American Casino in Lakewood. TV Channels 5, 7, and 13 asked to join them as they could not find any other such event happening in their broadcast area. Since response was so great, they are going to continue accepting Fredi’s challenge of hosting debate viewing parties.

BAINBRIDGE ISLAND REPUBLICAN WOMEN had Dean Hirsch, former President of World Vision International, at a recent meeting. He spoke about the current situation in the Middle East. This club is currently meeting at the Masonic Lodge and reports excellent attendance at their luncheon meetings.

GRANT COUNTY REPUBLICAN WOMEN held had as their September speaker, Senator Judy Warnick (third from the left)of the 13th District. She spoke about transportation,

state budget and other issues facing Washington State. Also honored was our club treasurer, Kim Allen (third from the right) as she was recently honored as a Wash-ington State Clerk of the Year.

CHELAN-DOUGLAS REPUBLICAN WOMEN’S CLUB have been busy. Fredi Simpson reports we held our first Republican Presidential debate party August 6th - what a fun way to hear what our candidates had to say! Through our ‘Caring for America’ program, we’ve aided projects like SAGE help domestic violence victims. We donated to ‘Vets Housewarming Project’ which assists local vets with necessity items to get started in a new home. We’re still helping Justin Peterson raise $100,000 for the Honor Flight program he started when he was 9 years old. So far, he’s raised ~$90,000 and he’s only 15.

LEWIS COUNTY REPUBLICAN WOMEN have had informative and interesting speakers, including State Senator John Braun at their September luncheon meeting. Guests like Bill Bryant, candidate for governor; Ryan Hart, District Director for Congresswoman Herrera Beutler; Sheriff Ron Snaza; County Coroner Warren McLeod; Skip Duncan, Executive Di-

rector, Veterans Memorial Museum have helped to in-crease their attendance. President Miller asks for “likes” to their Facebook page: Lewis County Republican Club.

Around the State

TRI-CITIES REPUBLICAN WOMEN are mourning the loss of over fifty years member, Peggy Astley. Peggy was a firm believer in phone trees to remind members of upcoming meetings and to joyfully greet each new guest. Her biggest issue was to make sure that all who attended felt welcomed and respected even if their beliefs were a little different than the more outspoken members.

THURSTON COUNTY REPUBLICAN WOMEN took a tour of the Port of Olympia recently. A good number of these club’s members met up with Com-missioner McGregor. They were quite impressed with the new water treatment facility where the drinking water meets higher standards than required.

CAMANO ISLAND REPUBLICAN WOMEN’S CLUB had a June potluck picnic where Rep. Dave Hayes and Camano Fire Chief Michael Schick joined them. Honorable Hayes updated members on legislative issues and the chief talked about station programs available. Great food, good conversation and lots of prizes ensured that all had a fun time!

EAST PIERCE REPUBLICAN WOMEN presented a check for $300 to help sup-port the USO. Even though the club officially takes July and Au-gust off, some still get together for an activity. In July, nine ladies toured SEA-TAC USO to see how this organization has many shifts and chores for all their volunteers to help the military.

REPUBLICAN WOMEN OF CLALLAM COUNTY held a candidates’ forum during their June meeting. Later they posted videos of the presentations on their rwclallamcounty.org website so voters can be well informed on what the candidate is about. In May, they had Honorable Judge Rick Porter who laid out the historical background of Supreme Court rulings and how it’s playing out today to remove all limits on federal authority and take over local courts and policing.

LAKEWOOD REPUBLICAN WOMEN report working on one of their favorite annual Car-ing for American projects: the Annual Wounded Warrior Fish-ing Day at American Lake JBLM on July 11th. Five members and 3 associates partnered with Steilacoom Kiwanis Club and Evergreen Bass Society to serve a lunch of hamburgers, hot dogs, salads and cookies for the approximately 75 military and their fami-lies attending. Most important, all had a good fishing day!

CASCADE REPUBLICAN WOMEN started our support project in September to provide needed clothing for the women for the Genesis Project, a nonprofit organization helping to save young women involved in sex trafficking in the South King County. In June, we received word of the passing of our found-

er, Susan Monchil. She was a Regent for the NFRW and had made many trips to D.C. She founded CRW in 1993.

WFRW Spring Board of Directors Meeting

October 2015 Dear WFRW Board Member, As leaders in one of the largest women's political organizations in America, we have an important task ahead of us in 2016. In order to accomplish this task, we must be prepared to increase our visibility, our influence and to grow as a grassroots organization. Let’s continue to make Red Waves that are washing over our State! Will you join me? If you are a President or District Director, I strongly encourage you to attend the special workshop by Cristi Lysne for District Directors and Colleen Wise for Presidents, designed to assist you in being more effective in your role as a WFRW leader. Debbie Blodgett, WFRW club president for Snohomish County Republi-can Women, will be giving a workshop on Servant Leadership. Our Dinner Keynote Speakers, Gary Lysne and daughter, Tonya Lysne, will be giving a compelling presen-tation on the Toxic Research Act. Tonya wrote the resolution that was presented and passed at the NFRW biennial convention in Phoenix in September. It is vital that every member of the WFRW Board of Directors – District Directors, Club Presidents and Committee Chairs – attend all of the scheduled board meetings so we can conduct business of the organiza-tion with a quorum. Only Club Presidents can send a proxy and the proxy cannot already be a voting mem-ber on the WFRW board. I look forward to seeing you November 13 & 14 as we join together with WFRW to celebrate 70 years in empowering women and helping them “Find their Voice” Roxanne Husmann President, WFRW *Please note: Any Club, the Board of Directors, and any Standing Committee may present resolu-tions. All resolutions shall be germane to the work of the Federation and shall be sent to the Resolu-tions Committee Chairman, Mary Jane Olson ([email protected]) not later than 14 days prior to the board meeting. Please refer to WFRW Standing Rules for more information about submitting resolutions.

2015 NFRW Biennial Convention-September 10-13

Two messengers covered with dust come to bid me fly, but I wait for him. ~ Dolley Madison

NFRW’s 38th Biennial Convention WFRW attendees were captured in these candid photos. There were 1,056 convention registrants representing 43 states, D.C., and Puerto Rico. The majority of the 871 straw poll voters (54%) came from the Western Region and the majority (59%) self-identified as very conservative. A Presidential Straw Poll was conducted with a listing of all 17 declared Republican candidates, including Rick Perry. Carly Fiorina and Ted Cruz spoke at the convention, as did former Arkansas First Lady Janet Huckabee. Jeb Bush and John Kasich had surrogates while Donald Trump, Scott Walker, and Ben Carson addressed the convention via video. The top three winners were Carly Fiorina, Ted Cruz, and Ben Carson. Fiorini got 49% of the women to vote her as their first or second choice as their Presidential candidate.
