INT. CONTROL ROOM - DAY
DR. JANE RYDER is standing in her lab coat transfixed on a
video screen of JACK HUNTER’S cell. In front of her, DR.
ALICE CROSWELL sits, also in a lab coat, busily typing away
at her computer. Croswell turns her head to see Ryder in
this state.
CROSWELL
What are you looking at? We have a
lot of work to do, so we cant waste
time staring at some security
camera footage.
RYDER
Oh, sorry, I was just distracted.
CROSWELL
By what?
(looks up at screen)
By a test subject siting on his
cot? Whats so interesting about
that?
RYDER
Well it’s not really what he’s
doing, its more I am wondering
whats going through his head right
now.
CROSWELL
I still don’t see how this is
interesting.
RYDER
Well I mean he cant possibly know
whats going on right now, so he
must be freaked out of his mind
about whats going to happen to him.
So what I am wondering if its
better this way knowing nothing or
for him to know what we plan to do
to him.
CROSWELL
Don’t waste your time thinking
about that Ryder. He is a drifter,
nobody but you cares what he is
thinking or how he feels. What we
should be worried about is what his
physical capabilities are and other
things that could effect the
experiment. Plus, he should be

CROSWELL (cont’d)happy, he is doing something
productive for society, probably
for the first time in his life too.
So what if he might die, or have
horrible mutations. It gets us data
and helps us learn more.
RYDER
I understand, just I wish you would
think about it differently.
CROSWELL
Like what exactly?
RYDER
Um... I don’t know, something
positive, like that once we perfect
a super human, we can change our
world for the betterment of all of
us, so we need to do this awful
stuff just for alittle bit to get
there.
CROSWELL
My view is positive. As I said,
this man is going to be productive,
he is going to either become or
super being or show us what not to
do.
RYDER
Ugh, I hate having to put up with
your damn disease all the time. For
me, can you just stop talking about
them like test rats?
CROSWELL
Fine, though I really cant see much
of a difference, we are mammals
after all, just like rats.
RYDER
That’s not what- you know what,
never mind, its like talking to a
brick wall about this type of stuff
with you. At least you are using
your lack of feelings to do
something good, that everyone else
has to much sympathy to do.

CROSWELL
Yes, sympathy is always the
downfall of so many people, I don’t
know why the scientific community
did not see that, they had no right
to ban me.
RYDER
Well you are doing serious
mutations on drifters, I mean even
for a good cause its still
extremely iffy morally speaking.
Hell, now that I am thinking about
it, I am amazed I even agreed to
this. If not for the final verdict,
I would be reporting you to the
higher authorities right now.
CROSWELL
Yes, the final verdict, the super
being. As soon as we get a living
super being, society will welcome
me back with open arms. That’s why
we need to work as fast as possible
to get this done.
RYDER
That’s one thing I actually
completely agree with you on, since
the faster we get this done the
faster we get to stop ruining
peoples lives.
CROSWELL
Well if you think that, maybe you
should get back to doing your job
instead of talking to me about such
trivial things and wondering what
random test subjects are thinking.
RYDER
Oh right, I’ll get right on that.
She heads out of the room.
